President Lee Jae-myung: "Lee Soon-jae elevated the dignity of Korean culture and arts"


Actor Lee Soon-jae has passed away. President Lee Jae-myung expressed deep condolences on the 25th regarding Lee Soon-jae's death. The president posted on his Facebook, "Praying for the repose of Lee Soon-jae, a great star of Korea's culture and arts." He stated, "I express my deepest condolences on the passing of the national actor Lee Soon-jae. Having devoted his entire life to acting, he elevated the dignity of Korean culture and arts. Crossing theater, film, and broadcasting, he brought us laughter, emotion, comfort, and courage."

President Lee quoted Lee Soon-jae's philosophy, saying, "Acting is a life companion that captures the stories of living humans." He added, "For him, acting was likely a channel to share the stories of our lives with the world and convey the essence of human life." Furthermore, he emphasized, "His philosophy on acting, his attitude as an actor, and his character as a true elder served as a model for countless juniors and deeply resonated with all of us. The works and messages he left behind will be passed down as precious cultural heritage of Korea."

Voices mourning Lee Soon-jae continued in the entertainment industry. Actor Jung Bo-suk, who appeared as Lee Soon-jae's son-in-law in the 2009 MBC sitcom "High Kick Through the Roof," wrote on Instagram, "Thank you so much, sir, for everything. I learned and felt a lot about acting, life, and the attitude of being an actor." He expressed condolences, saying, "You are my true teacher in life. Every step you took was the beginning and history of our broadcast acting."

Actor Bae Jung-nam, who acted with Lee Soon-jae in the KBS drama "Nonsense," posted on Instagram, "Lee Soon-jae, I sincerely pray for your peaceful rest," and added, "It was the greatest honor of my life to work with such a highly respected teacher." Singer Tae, upon hearing the news of Lee Soon-jae's passing on MBC Radio's "Good Morning FM Tae," expressed regret, saying, "He said he would stay on stage or in front of the camera until the end of his life, so I thought he would be active and healthy beyond 100 years old." He added, "I will never forget his lifelong passion and relentless challenges."

Comedian Kim Young-chul also said on SBS Radio's "Kim Young-chul's Power FM," "He was highly respected by juniors in the entertainment industry," and "My heart feels heavy as if I lost a family elder." Taeyeon of the girl group Girls' Generation shared a black-and-white photo taken with the late actor on Instagram to express her condolences. The photo was taken after watching the 2019 play "Grandpa Henry and Me."

Lee Soon-jae was a representative actor of Korea, actively working in various fields such as theater, film, and broadcasting. His acting moved and comforted many people and served as a great example for juniors. Lee Soon-jae's works and messages will remain as Korea's cultural heritage in the future.
