Broadcaster Park Na-rae has announced a suspension of her broadcasting activities. On the 8th, Park Na-rae stated on her social media, "I have decided to suspend my broadcasting activities until everything is neatly resolved, as I believe I can no longer cause inconvenience to programs and colleagues."
Park Na-rae has recently been embroiled in conflicts with former managers and allegations of illegal medical practices. She said, "In early November, two managers who were like family suddenly resigned, and until recently, I was not given the opportunity to talk with them, which led to misunderstandings. With your help, I was able to meet face-to-face with the former managers yesterday and clear up misunderstandings and distrust, but everything is still my fault."
She added, "As a comedian whose profession is to bring laughter and joy, I deeply reflect on this, and I bow my head once again to sincerely apologize to everyone who has trusted and supported me."
Park Na-rae debuted as a comedian through KBS's 21st public recruitment and is currently active in MBC variety programs such as "I Live Alone" and "Save Me, Holmes." She won the Grand Prize at the 2019 MBC Entertainment Awards and the Female Variety Award in the TV category at the 2020 Baeksang Arts Awards.
Her decision to suspend broadcasting activities is related to allegations of abuse of power, including verbal abuse, special injury, proxy prescriptions, and non-payment of hosting fees raised by former managers. The former managers claim that Park Na-rae committed workplace harassment and verbal abuse during her tenure and are preparing a lawsuit for damages.
After her managers resigned, the controversy escalated with the filing of a provisional seizure on real estate. Anpark claimed that after receiving severance pay, the managers additionally demanded an amount equivalent to 10% of the company's previous year's sales and filed charges against the managers for extortion.
Furthermore, Park Na-rae is also facing allegations of illegal medical practices involving a person known as "Jusaimo." This individual is suspected of illegally providing intravenous injections to Park Na-rae, and the Association of Doctors for a Fair Society claims that this person is a "ghost medical school graduate who does not exist" and has called for an investigation.
Park Na-rae appears to be feeling psychological pressure due to these successive allegations and seems to have decided to suspend her broadcasting activities considering the production staff and others. Her official departure from broadcasting has not yet been confirmed.
Attention is focused on how she will resolve the situation going forward, and discussions are expected to continue regarding the impact of this incident on her career.
