MBC's 'I Live Alone' ratings drop to 4.7%... Aftermath of Park Na-rae controversy

MBC variety show "I Live Alone" recorded its lowest viewership rating of the year in the broadcast on the 12th. According to Nielsen Korea, the nationwide rating for that day's episode was 4.7%, a 0.5 percentage point drop from the 5.2% rating of episode 625 aired on the 5th. This surpassed the previous lowest ratings of the year, 4.8%, recorded in episodes 601, 622, 623, and 624.

Park Na-rae has suspended her broadcasting activities amid allegations of manager abuse and illegal medical procedures. Her former managers filed a provisional seizure application on real estate at the Seoul Western District Court on the 3rd, signaling a lawsuit seeking damages worth approximately 100 million won. The managers claimed unfair treatment by Park Na-rae, raising accusations including workplace harassment, special injury, proxy prescription, and unpaid hosting fees. Park Na-rae met directly with the two managers to resolve the conflict and stated, "I have decided to suspend broadcasting activities until everything is neatly resolved." However, the managers refuted this through the JTBC incident leader, stating, "There was no agreement or apology at all," prolonging the controversy.

Regarding the allegations of illegal medical procedures, Park Na-rae's side denied the claims, asserting that she received nutritional injections from a licensed doctor. However, controversy continues as suspicions arose that Mr. A, who performed the procedure, is not a medical professional.

In the episode of "I Live Alone" aired on the 12th, Major Leaguer Kim Ha-seong appeared and revealed his life in Korea during the off-season. The studio featured Jeon Hyun-moo, Code Kunst, Gian84, and Lim Woo-il, but there was no mention of Park Na-rae's absence. After returning to Korea, Kim Ha-seong introduced his home and talked about his baseball career. He said, "After a season ends, I feel many areas where I am lacking," and added that he trains harder even during the off-season. He focused on physical training and revealed that he increased his weight from 68kg to 90kg.

Kim Ha-seong spent time with his close friend Coach Jung Ki-hoon after training, reminiscing about their difficult times. Coach Jung Ki-hoon expressed gratitude, recalling the time Kim Ha-seong gifted him a plane ticket to the United States. Kim Ha-seong shared his thought, "Let's not struggle alone but struggle together," showcasing their strong friendship. He said, "During my time in the U.S., I really focus only on baseball," and when he has personal time, he meets friends and family to prepare for the next season.

At the end of the broadcast, an episode featuring Key was revealed. Key went kimchi-making with his friend Kani and did not issue a separate statement regarding the allegations of illegal medical procedures involving Park Na-rae. The "I Live Alone" production team decided to air Key's episode normally, separate from Park Na-rae's suspension.

Due to the fallout from Park Na-rae's abuse controversy, the viewership ratings of "I Live Alone" are on a downward trend. The show recorded its lowest rating in the first broadcast after her suspension, raising concerns about the program's future direction.
