
The late Jeon Yoo-sung received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the '2025 KBS Entertainment Awards.' The ceremony, held live on the 20th at KBS Hall in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, was hosted by Lee Min-jung, Lee Chan-won, and Moon Se-yoon. Comedian Lee Kyung-kyu, who presented the Lifetime Achievement Award, called out the name of the late Jeon Yoo-sung, saying, "He is the person who laid the foundation and groundwork for our junior comedians to work hard and thrive like this."
The late Jeon Yoo-sung is recognized as the person who first coined the term 'comedian.' On this day, junior comedians prepared a special tribute stage to honor him. The popular segment 'Knowing the Song' team from Gag Concert performed a tribute by reminiscing about Jeon Yoo-sung through the song 'Good Person.' In the following VCR, words left by Jeon Yoo-sung during his lifetime on broadcasts were revealed. He mentioned, "Comedians think a lot in order to be funny," emphasizing that not only comedians but all people live their lives thinking deeply.
The late Jeon Yoo-sung was the founder of 'Gag Concert' in 1999, establishing the foundation of Korean comedy. After debuting as a comedy writer through a special recruitment at TBC Dongyang Broadcasting in 1969, he transitioned to a comedian and gained great love by appearing in various programs such as 'Humor No.1' and 'Show Video Jockey.' The influence he left during his lifetime is deeply engraved in the hearts of junior comedians.
At the ceremony, Forestella, who won the Popularity Award, took the stage to share their thoughts. Forestella said, "We are truly grateful to receive such a precious award," and added, "Although we were born on another broadcasting station, KBS raised us with love." They expressed their determination not to tarnish the reputation of KBS programs in the future.
Chef Jung Ji-sun also received the Popularity Award, being recognized for her unique character and achievements in KBS entertainment throughout the year. When a tribute video honoring the late was shown during the ceremony, the previously lively atmosphere turned solemn. Junior comedians gave a standing ovation to pay their respects. In particular, Nam Hee-seok shed tears when Jeon Yoo-sung's image appeared on the screen.
The late Jeon Yoo-sung passed away on September 25 while receiving treatment for pulmonary fibrosis. At the age of 76, he was a godfather of Korean comedy who greatly influenced his juniors. His contributions and achievements will remain forever in the history of Korean comedy.
