Extreme Crew challenges the 'Medoc Marathon'... achieves a personal best rating of 3.8%

The Extreme Crew challenged the Médoc Marathon and enjoyed the race in their own ways. In the fifth episode of MBC's variety show "Extreme84," aired on the 28th, the Extreme Crew crossed the starting line and officially began the marathon. The episode recorded a household viewership rating of 3.8% in the Seoul metropolitan area according to Nielsen Korea, setting a new personal best. The 2049 demographic rating rose to 1.2%, showing an upward trend compared to the previous week, and the nationwide rating increased by 0.9 percentage points to 3.4%.

Kwon Hwa-woon, a member of the Extreme Crew, took on the role of pacemaker for the crew members, changing the atmosphere of the race. Adjusting his pace to help Lee Eun-ji and Tsuki, who were attempting their first marathon, Kwon said, "I've always run marathons for records, but if I can help new crew members finish, that's more valuable." Gi-an84 reflected on Kwon's actions, saying, "Wasn't that something I should have done?"

Kwon Hwa-woon remained composed throughout the race. He supported Tsuki by accepting her squid costume so she could focus on the race, frequently checked on Lee Eun-ji's condition, and provided fruits and water with careful attention. He also danced and enjoyed wine intermittently, roaming amidst the festival atmosphere. His energy impressed the panelists as well.

Lee Eun-ji, running her first marathon, found stability with Kwon's help. After running 10 km together, she continued the race alone. Although she briefly worried about running solo, she suddenly started dancing and entered a trance-like state. She set a personal longest distance record and experienced a runner's high for the first time. Motivated by the thought that other crew members were running somewhere too, she never gave up and ultimately achieved her goal, creating a touching moment.

Tsuki brought laughter to viewers with her emotional race. From the start, she was moved by the sight of family runners and experienced touching moments pushing a runner in a wheelchair alongside others. Tsuki said, "I was happy to find a race I could enjoy on my first attempt. I kept feeling emotional, thinking my dad must have been running while watching this scene." She tied her hair tightly and launched into a full sprint, fully enjoying the Médoc Marathon and bringing smiles to those watching.

In contrast, Gi-an84 showed the most dramatic contrast during the race. From the start, he ran straight ahead like a racehorse, focusing solely on the race. He admitted, "Honestly, I was embarrassed," revealing regrets about his role as crew leader, unsatisfactory past records, and overdrinking the day before. However, as the race progressed, he repeatedly stopped due to dehydration and thirst, eventually collapsing at the 31 km mark.

Gi-an84 said, "I've already given up on the record and don't know if I can even finish," and struggled to run again, but his condition did not improve. He experienced leg cramps for the first time and eventually collapsed on the road. He candidly shared, "Even if you call it a festival, the essence of a marathon doesn't change. It's a continuous cycle of pain and limits." Later, he took off his shirt and continued running but suffered severe pain and even vomited.

At the end of the broadcast, tension rose as scenes of Kwon Hwa-woon collapsing from exhaustion alongside Gi-an84 and Tsuki sitting down were previewed. Tsuki hinted at an injury, and Kwon showed signs of discouragement, saying, "It won't be easy." As curiosity about the Extreme Crew's future grew, the final marathon was revealed, featuring melting glaciers and an endless snowy field, foreshadowing an extreme environment on another level.
