AKMU has expressed gratitude as they end their exclusive contract with YG Entertainment. Lee Suhyun posted a photo on her social media account on the 31st, taken in front of the YG Entertainment building. The photo featured a coffee truck along with a banner that read, "Thank you so much for a long time and many nights." This day marks the official end of Lee Suhyun's contract with YG Entertainment.
On the last day at YG Entertainment, Lee Suhyun expressed her appreciation by gifting a coffee truck. It was confirmed through a report by Xportsnews last November that AKMU would leave YG Entertainment to become independent. After concluding their exclusive contract with YG Entertainment by the end of December, they plan to establish an independent company with their manager, who has been with them for a long time.
An industry insider told Xportsnews, "A few months ago, Lee Chanhyuk, Lee Suhyun, and producer Yang Hyunseok had a meal together, and the conversation naturally flowed towards the direction of AKMU's future activities." They added, "Producer Yang, who has closely watched the members for 12 years, expressed support for their independence, believing that free activities in a new environment, not under YG, would be another growth engine for AKMU."
YG Entertainment announced the expiration of the exclusive contract with AKMU through an official statement, indicating that both parties decided to part ways after in-depth discussions. Lee Chanhyuk recently showed loyalty by performing a congratulatory song at the wedding of the manager who will be joining them in their independence. He sang 'Endangered Love' at the wedding held in Jinju, Gyeongnam, accompanied by a saxophonist and dancers to create a splendid stage.
AKMU is the team that won the SBS audition program 'K-Pop Star Season 2' in 2012. They gained public attention for their exceptional songwriting, composing, and singing skills. They signed an exclusive contract with YG Entertainment in 2014 and officially debuted, changing their activity name to 'AKMU' in 2019 and continuing their activities.
AKMU has a number of hit songs, including 'How Can I Love You Until We Part?', 'Falling', 'DINOSAUR', '200%', and 'Long Days, Long Nights'. They plan to seek new musical directions through independent activities in the future.
