Actress and singer Nana (real name Lim Jin-a, 34) has been involved in an incident where she was threatened by a burglar who broke into her home and has since been counter-sued by that burglar. Nana's representatives stated, "This inhumane act causes secondary damage," indicating strong legal action will be taken.
On the 2nd, Nana's management released a statement saying, "The perpetrator is filing a separate lawsuit against actress Nana without any remorse. This is an inhumane act that exploits the fact that the victim is a public figure." They emphasized, "Through thorough investigation by the authorities, the perpetrator's criminal facts have been clearly confirmed in the robbery assault case against our artist, Nana."
Nana's representatives further claimed, "Especially during the attack by the armed perpetrator, actress Nana and her family suffered severe physical and mental harm, and the resulting physical and psychological pain continues to this day." They added, "Our company prioritizes the protection of our artists' rights and will take all necessary legal actions against the perpetrator in civil and criminal matters related to this issue."
The suspect A, who broke into Nana's home, was arrested last November for robbery and aggravated assault. Recently, during the investigation, A submitted a complaint against Nana, claiming that her actions during the struggle constituted attempted murder. However, the injuries A sustained while being restrained by Nana and her mother were recognized as self-defense by the police.
A's counter-suit is seen by Nana's side as a case of "turning the tables." According to police reports, A broke into Nana's home and threatened her mother with a weapon while demanding valuables. Hearing the screams, Nana woke up and intervened to help her mother, resulting in a physical confrontation with A. As a result, Nana was injured, and her mother also suffered injuries, including being choked by A, requiring hospital treatment. A sustained lacerations to the jaw area from the weapon.
Based on the statements from the victim and the suspect, the police determined that the actions of Nana and her mother constituted self-defense as defined by Article 21, Section 1 of the Criminal Code. A police official stated, "There was a substantial invasion against the victims, and it was found that they did not cause serious harm to the suspect in the process of defending themselves," adding, "After a comprehensive assessment, we determined that the victims' actions fell under self-defense and did not file charges."
A legal expert noted, "Robbery causing injury is a serious crime with a higher minimum penalty than attempted murder," explaining that a suspect who has already been arrested and indicted filing a counter-suit for attempted murder appears to be a strategy to reduce sentencing by provoking a debate over self-defense in court."
Nana's representatives have warned of strong legal action regarding this incident, emphasizing that protecting the rights of artists is their top priority. There is a possibility of additional legal measures being taken as the situation progresses. Nana and her family have suffered significant psychological and physical harm from this incident, and it will be important to observe how legal actions unfold in response.
