National actor Ahn Seong-ki has not regained consciousness after collapsing due to cardiac arrest, raising concerns about his health condition. Ahn collapsed on December 30 last year while eating at home, choking on food and was transported to the emergency room in a state of cardiac arrest. He is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit; while his heart rate has recovered, he remains unconscious.
Ahn's agency, Artist Company, announced on December 31, "Ahn Seong-ki has been transported to the hospital, and we are currently monitoring his condition. He is in serious condition." His family is staying at the hospital by his side, and his eldest son, who resides in the United States, is returning urgently to be with him.
Ahn was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019 and was declared cured in 2020; however, he later experienced a relapse and has been receiving treatment since. His battle with illness was first made public through media in 2022, and he continued to attend various events, showcasing his passion for Korean cinema.
Ahn spent his birthday on January 1 in an unconscious state in the hospital. Consequently, support from fans and fellow actors wishing for his recovery has continued. Notably, during the 2025 SBS Acting Awards, actor Ko Geon-han mentioned Ahn in his acceptance speech and wished for his health recovery.
Since making his debut in 1957 in director Kim Ki-young's film "Twilight Train," Ahn has established himself as a national actor by appearing in approximately 200 films. His notable works include "Silmi-do," "Whale Hunting," "No Mercy for the Rude," and "Radio Star."
Ahn Seong-ki's deteriorating health has also heightened awareness about blood cancer. Blood cancer refers to malignant tumors occurring in the blood, bone marrow, and lymph nodes, and its early symptoms can resemble those of a cold or simple fatigue, which can delay diagnosis. Experts advise not to ignore minor symptoms and to undergo early examinations.
Voices wishing for Ahn's health recovery continue to grow, expressing hope for his swift recovery.
