KBS 2TV's 'Salrimnam' captured viewers' attention from the first broadcast of the new year by showcasing the family love of Park Seo-jin and his three siblings, along with the life of Takuya, who is originally from Japan.

In the episode aired on the 3rd, Apink's Yoon Bo-mi and Kickflip's Kye-hoon appeared as special guests. Park Seo-jin and his siblings embarked on their first family trip to mark the new year. The broadcast recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 3.9% according to Nielsen Korea, while a scene where Park Seo-jin predicts his sister Hyo-jeong's romantic fortune achieved a peak rating of 6.1%.

Park Seo-jin's older brother Hyo-young, known for his reserved personality, joined the family trip for the first time. Hyo-young accompanied the siblings on their trip to Mungyeong, planned by Park Seo-jin for the New Year. Although Hyo-young did not engage in much conversation, Park Seo-jin and Hyo-jeong playfully argued, setting a lively atmosphere. Park Seo-jin suggested recreating childhood photos to create memories with his brother, stating, "The only thing that remains is photos. While organizing the album, I realized I didn't have any photos with my brother." Hyo-young, although shy, embraced his brother and conveyed his emotions.

After Hyo-jeong left the room, the conversation between Park Seo-jin and Hyo-young paused, prompting Park Seo-jin to worry about a broadcasting mishap and mention, "In radio, if you go three seconds without speaking, you have to write a report." Hyo-young responded, "I'll write you ten reports." Park Seo-jin remarked, "It made me reflect. Now I want to respond quickly and speak more at length."

The three siblings engaged in a deep conversation. Park Seo-jin shared that his brother had given up on attending college due to their family's financial situation, starting to work at the age of twenty even after receiving a scholarship. He recalled, "I remember the smell of my brother who worked in fishing during our childhood. The scent of him coming out without washing sticks in my memory," highlighting his brother's sacrifices. Park Seo-jin mentioned that his brother often said, "Just bury it." He lived quietly for the family while suppressing his feelings. Hyo-young expressed, "I had nothing I wanted to do, and I didn't want to go to college. If someone has a dream, it's right to help them. I'm satisfied with my life now." Park Seo-jin revealed his affectionate feelings towards his brother, confirming their sibling bond.

Meanwhile, Takuya, originally from Japan, made his debut as the first foreign 'Salrimnam' householder. Takuya's mother introduced him by saying, "I think my son is a superstar thriving in Korea." Takuya had represented Japan on JTBC's 'Abnormal Summit' and 'TalkPawon 25'. With his tall frame of 188 cm and sculpted appearance, he garnered attention in the studio.

Takuya entered the entertainment industry after being selected in a flower boy contest hosted by a Japanese magazine. He came to Korea in 2010 and has been living there for 15 years now. He started his life at a goshiwon and learned Korean for the first time in Korea. Takuya challenged himself with his first observational reality show through 'Salrimnam'. He sought advice from the 2024 KBS Entertainment Awards grand prize winner, singer Lee Chan-won, to assess his character and attempted a recognition test on the streets of Hongdae. However, many people did not recognize him, and Takuya expressed, "I was greatly disappointed in myself and felt very small."

To celebrate the new year, Takuya returned to his hometown in Japan. The house where his family lives together was revealed for the first time on the broadcast, attracting viewers' interest. The sight of Takuya returning home after two years with the production team made his family proud, and his father shed tears. Next week's episode is set to unveil Takuya's hidden family story.
