Singer Kim Gun-mo has resumed activities through a nationwide concert tour after a long hiatus caused by multiple controversies, with updates on his music production drawing renewed attention.
On the 2nd, composer Yoon Il-sang, a close associate of Kim Gun-mo, appeared on the YouTube channel “Choi Wook’s Maebul Show” and shared insights into Kim’s current situation. He said, “I’m writing music myself, and Kim Gun-mo is also working on songs he writes personally. He studies every day, writes music every day, and lives entirely within music.”
In 2019, Kim Gun-mo appeared on SBS’s variety show “My Little Old Boy,” enjoying what appeared to be a second peak in his career. However, that same year, allegations related to his private life emerged, abruptly halting his activities.
Most notably, Kim was accused of sexually assaulting a woman who worked as a hostess at a bar in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul, in 2016, leading to charges filed years later. The case sparked widespread public controversy, prompting Kim to suspend all entertainment activities.
After investigation, prosecutors concluded in November 2021 that there was insufficient evidence and cleared Kim of all charges. Although legally exonerated, Kim endured personal hardship during the controversy, including the end of his marriage.
Reflecting on that period, Yoon Il-sang said, “Kim Gun-mo never left music, but circumstances forced him into a long hiatus,” adding that “he is now musically recharged.”
In September last year, Kim Gun-mo cautiously returned to the stage, beginning a nationwide tour with a concert in Busan.
Having passed through controversy, a no-charge ruling, and a prolonged silence, Kim Gun-mo is once again focusing on music. Whether his future activities and potential new releases will be received positively remains a subject of divided public opinion.
