The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul has booked a foreign woman for stalking BTS member Jungkook's residence. On January 4, the police announced that a woman in her 30s, identified as A, a Brazilian national, has been booked on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act. A is accused of approaching Jungkook's home around 2:50 PM that day, throwing mail, and hanging photographs on the railing, causing a disturbance.
A was previously booked for trespassing in December of last year for visiting Jungkook's residence twice, placing mail, and ringing the doorbell. It is reported that Jungkook's side has applied for a restraining order against A.
Since his military discharge, Jungkook has repeatedly suffered from incidents of trespassing by fans. On December 16 of last year, a Japanese woman in her 50s, identified as B, was booked for attempted trespassing. His agency, Big Hit Music, expressed a strong intention to respond firmly, stating, "Illegal acts near the artist's home, attempts to access the home, stalking, and other serious violations are occurring repeatedly."
The issue of sasaeng fans visiting Jungkook's home continues to persist. In June of last year, a Chinese woman in her 30s, in August, a Korean woman in her 40s, and in December, a Japanese woman in her 50s, were all booked for trespassing at Jungkook's home. These incidents are considered acts that threaten Jungkook's privacy and safety.
Big Hit Music stated, "We are actively cooperating by providing necessary materials for the investigation, and in some cases, the prosecution has filed for a summary order resulting in fines." The agency emphasized that it will respond strongly without leniency to acts that threaten the members' privacy and safety.
Jungkook has recently suffered serious harm due to fans' illegal access, leading to safety concerns for the artist. The police plan to respond strictly to stalking incidents like that of A. The Stalking Punishment Act is a law aimed at protecting victims' safety and imposes penalties for violations.
Jungkook's case reveals the blurred lines between celebrities and fans. A fan's passion can sometimes lead to invasions of personal privacy, resulting in social controversies. The police and the agency are being called to respond more thoroughly to such matters.
Jungkook is expected to take necessary measures to maintain a healthy relationship with his fans. Fans should respect the artist's privacy and prioritize their safety. Such incidents serve as a reminder for the proper formation of relationships between celebrities and fans.
The police will continue their investigation into stalking incidents and strengthen necessary measures for victim protection. Jungkook's case is raising social interest in the protection of celebrities, and it is expected that calls for legal measures to prevent similar incidents will increase in the future.
