“A Senior Who Shared My Debut Film” — Hwang Shin-hye Mourns the Late Ahn Sung-ki

Actress Hwang Shin-hye expressed deep sorrow following the passing of the late Ahn Sung-ki, recalling him as a senior who stood beside her at the very beginning of her film career.

On the 6th, Hwang attended a press conference for KBS 1TV’s new reality show Living Together with Hwang Shin-hye at KBS Art Hall in Yeouido, Seoul. Holding back tears, she said, “It’s only January 6, but I’ve already experienced three farewells this year,” referring to the recent loss of her longtime pet and the news of Ahn Sung-ki’s passing.

She shared, “Ahn Sung-ki was the senior I worked with on my debut film. He stood as a pillar of Korean cinema for so long, and it feels far too early to say goodbye.” The two appeared together in the 1987 film Our Joyful Young Days.

Hwang added that she plans to visit him after the event, saying, “I hope he rests peacefully in a better place.”

Ahn Sung-ki passed away on the 5th at the age of 74. After years of illness, he left behind a profound legacy in Korean cinema.
