Sohyang apologizes to fans, saying "I performed very poorly" after a mistake on the 'Golden' stage

Singer Sohyang apologized for the vocal controversy that arose after her live performance of the OST "Golden" from the Netflix animation "K-Pop Demon Hunters." On January 4, Sohyang wrote in the description of a video posted on her YouTube channel, "Golden, I was really bad," adding, "This voice belongs to God, and I realized that when I used it for my own greed, I was bound to be incompetent. It was an opportunity for me to decide to be humble."

On December 31 of last year, Sohyang took the stage with singers Park Hye-won (HYNN) and Youngbin at KBS's "2026 Countdown Show Light Now" held around Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. The three chose "Golden," the OST of the animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters." Sohyang started the introduction with Youngbin, but her pitch was unstable early on, and the breathing did not match, leaving some viewers disappointed.

At the beginning of the stage, Sohyang started singing at a somewhat high pitch, and even during the duet section with Park Hye-won that followed, their individual tones stood out more than the harmony. Because of this, some viewers felt it sounded like a dissonance. However, as the performance progressed, Sohyang gradually found stability, and by the end, her distinctive vocal ability was somewhat demonstrated.

When the stage video was released on the KBS YouTube channel, mixed reactions followed among viewers. Some netizens left harsh comments such as "It was too much," "It was a disaster," and "It seems like they went on stage without rehearsing together even once." On the other hand, other netizens responded with comments like "She just seemed a bit off condition," and "It's not that bad, people are overreacting."

Sohyang seemed aware of the controversy and replied to a fan's comment saying "She just screams," with "That's right. I ruined everything. I'm very disappointed too." This apology is interpreted as a demonstration of her sincerity.

Since her debut in 1996, Sohyang has been loved by the public for her unique song interpretations and outstanding vocal skills on shows such as MBC's "I Am a Singer," KBS's "Immortal Songs," and MBC's "King of Mask Singer." In particular, she received acclaim both domestically and internationally by performing the finale stage with soprano Jo Sumi at the opening ceremony of the 12th PyeongChang Winter Paralympics.

Through this controversy, Sohyang said she has reconsidered her attitude toward music and humility. She expressed, "This voice belongs to God. I felt that when I used it for my own greed, I was bound to be incompetent," and she hopes to continue being humbly used as a tool of the Lord.

Despite the vocal controversy, Sohyang is still loved by many fans, and her musical journey will continue. As expectations for her future activities rise, this incident is expected to become an important turning point in her musical growth.
