Singer and actress Son Dam-bi has spoken candidly about the attention and misunderstandings that followed her comment about paying 10 million won in monthly rent. The issue, she noted, was not about her income but the unexpected ripple effect of a single remark.
Appearing on the YouTube channel No Back Tak Jae-hoon on the 7th, Son discussed her hit song Crazy before the conversation naturally shifted to her living situation. While acknowledging that she earned a significant amount during her peak years, she clarified that “royalties don’t all come directly to me,” pointing out the realities of revenue distribution.
When asked why she lives in a rental home—and one with such a high monthly rent—Son jokingly said she “wanted to tear her mouth apart,” expressing regret over revealing the figure in the first place.
She had previously mentioned the 10 million won rent on another YouTube show, after which the number began following her in headlines and comments. “I didn’t even need to bring it up, but I did,” she reflected, adding that the figure has since become an unwanted label.
Regarding the expensive rent, Son said only that “there are reasons for living that way,” noting that personal circumstances and lifestyle choices were overlooked as the number itself drew outsized attention.
Vowing not to mention the topic again, Son revealed she plans to move in February. She even joked that the issue caused a stir among her in-laws, drawing laughter while underscoring the real-life pressures faced by public figures whose words can quickly define their image.
