The press screening and distribution preview of the film "Project Y" was held on the 8th at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul. Director Lee Hwan and actors Han So-hee, Jeon Jong-seo, Kim Shin-rok, Jung Young-joo, Lee Jae-kyun, Yoo Ah, and Kim Sung-chul attended.
Han So-hee stated, "Although the character may seem strong in expression, she has a more fragile side than anyone else, so the dual aspects felt quite attractive." She also explained her reason for joining the cast, saying, "I thought it was a film I had to do because I could lead the energy with actors of my age and, upon hearing about the casting of other actors, I felt I couldn't miss it."
Jeon Jong-seo mentioned, "As an actress who constantly challenges herself in a rare genre that is not easy to create as a female actor, being able to participate in 'Project Y' itself was very meaningful to me," adding, "I remember every scene I filmed with Han So-hee."
The film "Project Y" tells the story of Miseon and Dokyung, who live dreaming of a different tomorrow in the middle of a glamorous city and end up stealing black money and gold bars at the edge of their lives. The film is scheduled to be released on the 21st.
Kim Shin-rok plays the role of Gayoung, the mother of Miseon and Dokyung, in "Project Y." Kim Shin-rok explained, "Although the relationship with Miseon and Dokyung is set as a mother, it is not a typical mother-daughter relationship," and said that the two main characters try to pursue a better life with money within the system through their relationship with Gayoung.
Kim Shin-rok emphasized, "I focused on how to make that brief encounter intense and convincing through the character of Gayoung." She also praised the acting of Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo, saying, "The pleasure and fun of watching the two actors move within one frame were incredible."
"Project Y" was first revealed before its release through the 'Special Presentation' section at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival and gained attention by being officially invited to the 30th Busan International Film Festival and winning the Best Film Award at the 10th London Asian Film Festival.
Han So-hee said, "Although she may seem strong, the dual aspects felt attractive," and added, "The fact that I could lead the film with actors of my age and work together with senior actors and other cast members made me feel that I had to do this project."
Jeon Jong-seo said, "The biggest attraction was that it is a buddy film," and added, "There are many hidden charms beyond what is written in the script, and I thought there would be many points where I could find and express them."
Kim Sung-chul explained, "The director said that giving a narrative itself could diminish Tosajang's charm, so I acted with the hope that the character would be seen as someone who opposes Miseon and Dokyung."
Jung Young-joo said, "In the first meeting, the first scene, I got hit with an ashtray and saw some blood. It was a shoot right away without a long conversation."
Yoo Ah said, "For the first time in my life, I played the role of Hakyeong. There were some shocking lines even in the script, and I wondered if I could really do it, but the director gave me courage, so I was able to accomplish it."
Director Lee Hwan emphasized, "Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo were the characters I thought of while considering the script. They were truly irreplaceable." He added, "If it weren't for the two of them, it would have been difficult to even start or complete this film."
"Project Y" is scheduled to be released in theaters on the 21st.
