
Singer Lee Chan-won reexamines the life of the late Ahn Sung-ki through KBS 2TV's "The Secret of Celebrity Soldiers." The episode airing on January 13th is a special tribute titled "The Great Star of Korean Cinema Has Fallen... The Story of Actor Ahn Sung-ki, Whose Life Was Film," honoring Ahn Sung-ki, who passed away at the age of 74.
The broadcast will feature video footage of Ahn Sung-ki's own voice. He expressed his sincerity and philosophy about acting, saying, "As long as I can, I wonder if I will become an actor with a completely different charm, a good actor..." A program official stated that this video offers a glimpse into Ahn Sung-ki's true world of acting.
Since his debut in the 1957 film "Twilight Train," Ahn Sung-ki appeared in over 170 films, earning the title of a great star in Korean cinema. He was praised as "an actor who is light itself," "a warm actor," and "a living Buddha of the film industry." He also served as chairman of the Korean Film Actors Association and as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF Korea, positively influencing society.
He was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019 and began treatment. Although declared cured in 2020, the cancer recurred, and while focusing on recovery, he collapsed after choking on food. He passed away six days after being hospitalized. On the day of his death, he was posthumously awarded the Geumgwan Cultural Medal by the government.
