Kim Jaejoong faces off against an evil spirit at a Japanese haunted shrine... 'Shinsa' to be released in Japan next February

Singer and actor Kim Jaejoong stars in the film "Shinsa: Whisper of the Evil Spirit," which will have its advance release in Japan on February 6. The production company Mystery Pictures officially announced this on the 13th.

"Shinsa: Whisper of the Evil Spirit" is an occult horror genre film centered on a series of disappearances of university students conducting a survey at an abandoned shrine in the mountains of Kobe, Japan. Kim Jaejoong takes on the role of the shaman Myeongjin, marking his first challenge in the horror genre. He portrays a dark hero standing on the boundary between gods and demons, delivering a powerful presence. Gong Seongha appears as his counterpart, playing Yumi, Myeongjin's junior at university and the project manager. The two characters gradually approach the true nature of the terror while investigating the identity of the evil spirit.

The film is directed by Kazuyoshi Kumakiri, who previously won three awards at the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival for "Yoko's Journey" (2023). "Shinsa: Whisper of the Evil Spirit" is his first Korean film directorial work, combining his persistent exploration of human inner emotions and extreme feelings with the occult horror genre, drawing attention.

Filming took place entirely on location in Kobe, Japan. This maximized the film's ominous atmosphere and realism. The abandoned shrine setting serves as an element that heightens the story's tension.

"Shinsa: Whisper of the Evil Spirit" was officially selected for the "Mad Max" section of the 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, generating anticipation among genre fans even before its release. After its advance release in Japan, it will be sequentially shown to Korean audiences.

The main poster of the film depicts shaman Myeongjin and an unidentified figure facing each other in a space filled with countless overlapping talismans. The sharp gaze of Myeongjin contrasts with the subtle expression of the other figure, hinting at the tension and hidden relationship between the two. This foreshadows an unknown horror beyond a simple disappearance case.

The main investor, Library Company, stated, "Starting with the advance release of 'Shinsa: Whisper of the Evil Spirit' in Japan, we plan to sequentially proceed with releases in Korea and globally." They added, "We will continue to expand our competitiveness in overseas markets through content that combines genre appeal and artistic quality."

Through this work, Kim Jaejoong takes on the horror genre for the first time in his career, and his new acting transformation is highly anticipated. "Shinsa: Whisper of the Evil Spirit" is expected to leave a strong impression on genre film fans.
