Broadcaster Park Na-rae recently expressed her position regarding allegations of illegal medical procedures and proxy prescriptions. In an interview with Ilgan Sports on the 14th, Park Na-rae voiced her frustration over mistaking an unlicensed practitioner, Mr. A, for a doctor. However, she admitted to the mistake of requesting proxy prescriptions from former managers and offered an apology.
Park Na-rae recalled that her first meeting with Mr. A was about three to four years ago. She explained that she first met Mr. A at a plastic surgery clinic near Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, and did not suspect anything because the hospital coordinated all schedules and Mr. A introduced himself as a doctor. Park Na-rae said, "I was called the 'representative' at the hospital, so I perceived him as the director," adding, "Both nurses and doctors were called 'representative,' and it is common for directors to only see patients while pay doctors perform the actual procedures."
Park Na-rae also mentioned that she developed a relationship with Mr. A after he revealed he was a fan. She emphasized Mr. A's credibility by saying, "Since he said he was a doctor, I naturally believed he was one." However, she acknowledged the fact that she asked former managers for proxy prescriptions. She stated, "I asked twice, and I admit that the act itself was wrong, and I apologize."
Park Na-rae explained the practical circumstances that made it difficult for her to visit the hospital due to her shooting schedule. She said, "I asked if I could go to the hospital during filming, but realistically it was difficult," adding, "With the production team, staff, and cast all waiting, it was not easy to say I was going to the hospital." She emphasized, "If this becomes a problem, I will take responsibility and accept punishment."
The controversy has spread throughout the entertainment industry. SHINee member Key and YouTuber Ipjjalbeun Haetnim also acknowledged facts related to the 'injection auntie' and temporarily suspended their activities. The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul has imposed a travel ban on Mr. A and launched an investigation on charges of violating the Medical Service Act, the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, and the Narcotics Control Act.
Park Na-rae also addressed conflicts with her former managers. She refuted claims point by point regarding workplace harassment, unpaid wages, non-application of the four major insurances, and the absence of a labor contract. She also clarified suspicions involving her ex-boyfriend and mother. While admitting to the proxy prescription allegations raised by former managers, she took a stance against other claims.
Park Na-rae said, "It was not because I am a celebrity that I couldn't go to the hospital; I have been to the hospital before." However, she explained, "It was difficult to visit the hospital when I had a full day of shooting scheduled." She reiterated, "If that part is a problem, I will take responsibility and accept punishment."
This incident has significantly impacted Park Na-rae's activities. She suspended her activities last December due to allegations of power abuse and illegal medical procedures. Former managers filed a lawsuit against Park Na-rae for defamation by false facts and violations of the Information and Communications Network Act, claiming she committed workplace harassment, special injury, proxy prescriptions, and other illegal acts. Park Na-rae also countersued the former managers for attempted extortion and embezzlement in the course of work.
This controversy has once again highlighted the seriousness of illegal medical procedures and proxy prescriptions in the entertainment industry. Attention is focused on how Park Na-rae's explanation and apology will affect her future activities. The police investigation results and the entertainment industry's response are also being closely watched.
