BTS V·Jungkook YouTuber for Defamation Ordered to Pay 86 Million Won in Second Trial

The operator of the YouTube channel 'De-fancier camp,' who posted false rumor videos about BTS members V (Kim Taehyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jungkook), lost again in the second trial and was ordered to pay more than 86 million won in damages. On the 23rd, the Civil Appeal Division 2-1 of the Seoul Western District Court ruled partially in favor of the plaintiffs—V, Jungkook, and their agency BigHit Music—in a damages lawsuit filed against Park. The court ordered Park to pay an additional 5 million won each to Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook, along with delayed interest.

The first trial court ruled in February last year that Park must pay 51 million won to BigHit Music, 10 million won to V, and 15 million won to Jungkook, partially siding with the plaintiffs. However, the second trial court partially overturned the first trial's ruling regarding V and Jungkook's losses and increased the compensation amount. V and Jungkook filed a lawsuit seeking damages in the 90 million won range in March 2024, claiming that Park defamed them and infringed on their personal rights by posting videos containing false information, and also interfered with the company's business.

BigHit Music also argued that Park should compensate for unauthorized use of the agency's copyrighted works. Since 2021, Park has been producing and posting videos on the YouTube channel 'Deconversion Detention Center' that featured malicious rumors about idols and other celebrities; the channel has since been deleted. Park is currently facing civil and criminal trials for spreading false information and defaming other celebrities besides BTS members.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to deliver a final ruling on the 29th regarding Park's appeal on charges of spreading false information about IVE member Jang Wonyoung. In the first and appellate trials, Park was sentenced to two years in prison with a three-year probation period.

Meanwhile, BTS is set to make a comeback on March 20 with their fifth full-length album, 'Arirang' (ARIRANG). This album is expected to strengthen communication with fans and present a new musical direction for the group. BTS enjoys immense global popularity and continues to deepen its bond with fans through various recent activities.
