Specialist Hong Seong-woo: "Met 'Injection Auntie' through Park Na-rae"... Controversy over illegal medical practices spreads

Urologist Hong Seong-woo revealed that he met the so-called "Injection Auntie," who became embroiled in a controversy over illegal medical practices through broadcaster Park Na-rae's introduction. The 1473rd episode of SBS's current affairs program "Unanswered Questions," aired on January 24, dealt with the reality of illegal medical practices targeting famous celebrities including Park Na-rae.

In an interview with the program's production team, Hong Seong-woo said, "I talked with that woman here at that time. You have come to the crime scene," explaining about Mr. Lee, a plastic surgeon he met through an acquaintance. He added, "He said the clinic was right in front. He came to find me and talked." He revealed that in November last year, he was introduced to Mr. Lee as the head of a famous plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam and the CEO of a company attracting foreign patients. Mr. Lee reportedly proposed overseas hospital expansion to Hong Seong-woo.

Regarding his relationship with Mr. Lee, Hong said, "Suddenly, reporters called and asked if I knew Mr. Lee. When I said 'yes,' they asked, 'You're not a doctor, right?'" He said he did not understand the situation at the time. He later explained that he understood the reporters' intentions after watching the news. Hong stated, "I only learned that the term 'Injection Auntie' was commonly used," and revealed how Park Na-rae introduced Mr. Lee. He said, "(Park Na-rae) is a good junior to me. There is no reason to deceive like this."

Park Na-rae recently became embroiled in allegations including abuse by a former manager, unregistered one-person agency, misuse of company funds, and receiving illegal medical treatments from a non-medical professional. She is suspected of receiving injection treatments from a so-called "Injection Auntie" A, who does not have a medical license, at officetels, vehicles, and overseas filming locations. There are also claims that she was given antidepressants classified as prescription drugs and narcotic drugs for dieting known as "butterfly medicine."

In response, Park Na-rae's agency, Anpark, explained, "She received nutritional fluid injections from a licensed doctor," and insisted that only house calls were made and no illegal medical practices occurred. However, despite this explanation, the controversy continues. Park Na-rae announced a suspension of activities, and Key of SHINee and mukbang creator Ipjjalheun Haetnim, who were revealed to have connections with the Injection Auntie, also withdrew from their ongoing broadcasts.

A, who had remained silent, expressed a position after about a month through their social media account on January 24. A stated, "Based only on the manager's report, which was not sufficiently verified, I became the target of nationwide criticism and gossip," emphasizing, "The only place where I can tell the truth is the investigative agency." They hinted at legal action and said they would observe the progress of the situation.

This incident once again highlights the blurred boundaries between famous celebrities and medical practices. There is a growing social call for awareness regarding illegal medical practices.
