Actress Moon Chae-won has taken on a new acting challenge through the film Heartman. Heartman is a comedy that tells the story of a man named Seung-min who tries to hold on to his first love. The character Bona, played by Moon Chae-won, is portrayed as someone who is confident in both her career and love life. Through Bona, Moon Chae-won expressed a range of emotions and aimed to approach a realistic character, moving away from her familiar image.
Moon Chae-won is expanding her acting spectrum with Heartman. After returning to the screen last year with Gwishee following a seven-year hiatus, she is broadening her connection with the audience by presenting Heartman within a relatively short period. Moon Chae-won said, "It feels exciting and heart-fluttering to greet the audience with a new work after a long time." She also revealed that the wait from the end of filming to the release made her even more nervous.
Regarding her impressions after seeing the completed film, Moon Chae-won said, "Because of my deep affection for the work, I have already lost objectivity." She added, "My first thought was that the movie we made together turned out to be fun, so I view it positively." Bona is a character who speaks several languages and has built her career independently, which was a step away from the acting style Moon Chae-won was accustomed to. She explained, "Bona is a very diverse character who gets angry when she needs to and says everything she wants to say."
Moon Chae-won set Bona not as a passive character but as someone who drives the story forward. She said, "Bona appears clean and pure on the outside, but she has some dating experience and knows how to lead relationships." This role was Moon Chae-won's first time playing a first love, and she said, "I felt good when I received the offer." She added, "I had never played someone's first love before, so I think there was some regret."
Bona's first appearance is a scene that refreshes the film's atmosphere, and Moon Chae-won had to convey the character's emotions without dialogue. She said, "I felt that the first appearance scene was very important." The director and staff put in a lot of effort, and Moon Chae-won added, "In the film, the director and staff captured it very beautifully."
Bona's distance from the child is conveyed through the character's attitude and emotions. Moon Chae-won explained, "The setting that she dislikes children is closer to the feeling of being burdened." She said, "The relationship with the child named So-young naturally came across as treating her as a person with whom she could have a conversation."
Moon Chae-won expressed special feelings about working with Kwon Sang-woo. She said, "Senior actor Kwon Sang-woo is someone I have liked for a long time," and added, "He has a different energy from the image I used to see on screen." To convincingly portray Bona, Moon Chae-won carefully prepared her external image as well. She said, "When you think of a first love, you often imagine long straight hair, so I grew my hair out."
Through this work, Moon Chae-won is attempting to vary her existing image. She said, "I hope to be recognized as someone who also suits light roles through this work." Moon Chae-won feels that taking on various roles is a way to enjoy a long career as an actress, and she hopes this project will remain a pleasant experience.
