BTS to Meet 200,000 Fans at Gwanghwamun Square... Comeback Show After 3 Years and 9 Months

BTS's 2026 comeback show will be held at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. The Seoul Metropolitan Government and related agencies are preparing measures to manage the large crowds and minimize traffic inconveniences. BTS's comeback show will take place on March 21, with an expected audience of up to 200,000 people.

BTS's agency, HYBE, has submitted a permit application for the 'BTS 2026 Comeback Show, Seoul' performance at Gwanghwamun Square, accommodating about 18,000 people. This performance has received conditional approval from the Cultural Heritage Administration and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. This is the first time a solo performance by a specific artist will be held at Gwanghwamun. BTS will present their comeback stage after 3 years and 9 months, with the first unveiling of their fifth full album, "ARIRANG."

Seoul Metro has established safety measures to prevent accidents in preparation for the large crowds. From the day before the performance, on-site response personnel will be concentrated at major subway stations such as Gwanghwamun, City Hall, Seodaemun, Gyeongbokgung, and Jonggak. They are considering flexible train operations based on real-time congestion levels. In cases of severe congestion, options such as non-stop train passage through subway stations near the square and temporary rerouting of city buses are also being considered.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is reviewing the possibility of additional events at Seoul Plaza proposed by HYBE. There may be events for BTS's global fandom, ARMY, and foreign tourists at Seoul Plaza. A Seoul city official stated, "Since BTS's comeback stage is a great opportunity to promote Seoul, we are reviewing it positively internally."

Jongno-gu, where Gwanghwamun Square is located, and the adjacent Jung-gu have formed a joint inspection team to address the issue of price gouging at lodging facilities. They plan to focus inspections on accommodations around Gwanghwamun, Jongno, Bukchang-dong, and Myeongdong. They will monitor lodging price fluctuations on online booking sites and take administrative guidance or disciplinary action if complaints or violations are confirmed.

Accommodation prices near the venue are rising ahead of BTS's comeback. Major hotels adjacent to Gwanghwamun Square, such as Four Seasons and Lotte Hotel, are virtually fully booked on the day of the performance. Some hotels and motels have lodging rates on March 20 that are 200,000 to 300,000 KRW higher than on other days.

President Lee Jae-myung strongly criticized the price gouging controversy that arose before BTS's Busan concert, saying, "Malicious extortion that disrupts the entire market order and causes great harm to everyone must be eradicated."

BTS's comeback show is expected to proceed with thorough preparations by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and related agencies. Various measures are being put in place to address safety and traffic issues due to the large audience, and responses to lodging price issues are being strengthened. As a result, BTS's comeback show is anticipated to become a major event in Seoul beyond just a concert.
