"Extend BTS's Mexico concert"... The reason why the president personally stepped in

Claudia Sheinbaum, the president of Mexico City, announced that she sent a letter to President Lee Jae-myung requesting an increase in the number of performances by BTS. At a regular press conference on the 26th (local time), President Sheinbaum mentioned that BTS's concert in Mexico is scheduled for May, and as a result, many young people were unable to get tickets. He said, "About 150,000 tickets were sold in Mexico, but more than 1 million people wanted seats."

President Sheinbaum explained that after discussions with the local agency planning BTS's Mexico concert, only three performances in Mexico City have been confirmed so far. He added, "I made a polite diplomatic request to the President of Korea to have BTS come more often," expressing hope for a positive response or permission for screen screenings. He emphasized, "We need to find ways for young people to experience this group, which is gaining tremendous popularity worldwide, especially in Mexico, more frequently."

As part of their world tour, BTS will perform at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City on May 7th and 9th–10th. This stadium can accommodate between 50,000 and 60,000 spectators and has hosted various artists such as Black Pink, TWICE, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, and Metallica.

On the 19th, President Sheinbaum described BTS's Mexico concert as "historic" and ordered thorough supervision by authorities to ensure fairness and transparency in the ticket sales process. Ticket sales for BTS's Mexico concert began at 9 a.m. on the 24th, and all seats for the three performances sold out within 37 minutes. Ticketmaster, the sales agency, explained that the competition to purchase tickets for this concert was one of the most intense in the history of performances in Mexico.

According to Ticketmaster, tickets for BTS's Mexico City concerts were searched from over 1,300 cities worldwide. Strong demand was seen not only within Mexico but also from Lima (Peru), Santiago (Chile), Bogotá (Colombia), and states such as California and Texas (USA).

BTS's popularity is also spreading to Europe. The French daily Le Figaro reported that searches for accommodations in Paris increased by 590% after the announcement of BTS's concert dates. The outlet described it as "an astonishing case of music tourism," stating that the global fandom, ARMY, is ready to cross continents and time zones to see the Korean group returning to the international stage after four years. BTS's Paris concerts are scheduled for July 17th and 18th at Stade de France, and concerts in the UK on July 6th and 7th have also seen a 145% increase in accommodation searches.
