H.O.T. makes a full comeback after 25 years... aiming for a 'second heyday' with a Gmarket advertisement

K-pop idol group H.O.T. is returning as a complete group after 25 years. Debuting in 1996, H.O.T. is a representative group of the first generation of Korean idols and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The five members—Kangta, Moon Hee-jun, Jang Woo-hyuk, Tony An, and Lee Jae-won—gathered in one place, adding significance.

H.O.T. recently signed an advertising contract with the domestic e-commerce platform Gmarket and has completed filming. The advertisement content they filmed is currently about to air. Main vocalist Kangta, leader Moon Hee-jun, rappers Jang Woo-hyuk and Tony An, and Lee Jae-won, who was rarely seen in official appearances, came together to establish the symbolism of a "complete group."

Since the group disbanded in 2001, H.O.T. members have gone their separate ways. They created a big sensation by performing a reunion stage on MBC's variety show "Infinite Challenge" in 2018. At last year's "Hanteo Music Festival," they performed as a complete group again after about six years. However, this is the first time in about 25 years that the five members have reunited through a commercial advertisement, attracting industry attention.

The Gmarket advertisement is part of the e-commerce platform's "second heyday," and it is analyzed to have significant symbolism and influence across generations. An advertising industry insider said, "The 'G-Rock Festival (Gmarket Jilleo Rock Festival)' ads that Gmarket has been showcasing since last year have received a hot response by gathering stars from the past," adding, "With H.O.T. appearing as a complete group this time, it will reach its peak."

A field official said, "Although it was a shoot where they reunited after a long time, the atmosphere on set was very warm and close-knit," and added, "I understand that H.O.T. approached the shoot with the desire to give fans a meaningful gift on their 30th anniversary."

H.O.T.'s appearance as a complete group in the advertisement is generating great anticipation among fans and the public. They are highly likely to continue their past fame and establish themselves as icons of a new era. H.O.T., as key figures who have shaped the history of K-pop through their music and activities, plans to reaffirm their presence once again through this advertisement.

The e-commerce platform Gmarket gains an opportunity to enhance its brand image and market share through H.O.T.'s appearance. H.O.T.'s fan base remains strong, and their activities are expected to influence the new generation as well.

H.O.T.'s complete group advertisement goes beyond a simple commercial activity; it serves as an opportunity to reaffirm their music and relationship with fans. Their activities will remain an important milestone in K-pop history. H.O.T. is ready to recreate their past glory and open a new chapter that encompasses the present and future.
