Trot singer Kim Dana was taken to the emergency room due to health issues during a program shoot. On the 31st, Kim Dana's side revealed that she visited the emergency room after experiencing severe headaches while recording TV Chosun's "Miss Trot 4." Initial reports stated that Kim Dana underwent emergency brain surgery, but her representatives clarified that this was "exaggerated."
A representative from Kim Dana's side explained, "Test results showed inflammation in the blood vessels on her forehead, and she underwent a simple procedure," adding, "She was not hospitalized and is currently resting at home." The inflammation in the forehead blood vessels requires treatment, and Kim Dana is receiving outpatient care with no issues expected regarding her future appearances on "Miss Trot 4."
There is a possibility that Kim Dana's health issue is related to temporal arteritis. Temporal arteritis is a condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the blood vessel walls, which, if left untreated, can lead to serious complications such as vision loss. A typical symptom of this disease is severe headache, often caused by impaired blood flow due to inflammation of the vessel walls.
Temporal arteritis mainly affects the blood vessels around the temples and forehead. It is known to occur due to an autoimmune response in which the immune system attacks its own blood vessel walls. Treatment methods include procedures to remove part of the vascular tissue along with steroid injections. When steroid side effects are a concern, immunosuppressants may be used in combination.
Kim Dana became known to the public through her appearances on "Hidden Singer 6" and "Miss Trot 2" in 2020. She is currently re-challenging "Miss Trot 4" and plans to continue participating in the competition despite this health issue. Her representatives added, "It appears that vascular inflammation was caused by stress and a decline in condition," and emphasized, "Her condition is not serious."
Because temporal arteritis has a high chance of recurrence, regular blood tests are necessary. Since this disease affects blood flow to the eyes, immediate medical attention is required if symptoms such as blurred or dim vision occur. Additionally, smoking is a major factor that worsens vascular inflammation, so quitting smoking is essential. A low-sodium diet and sufficient rest also help in managing health.
Kim Dana is currently receiving outpatient treatment and focusing on recovery. She plans to continue participating in the "Miss Trot 4" competition in the future.
