Kian84 completes the Arctic Marathon in 5 hours and 9 minutes... concluding the epic journey of 'Extreme84'

Kian84 successfully completed the Polar Circle Marathon in the final episode of MBC's variety show "Extreme 84," concluding his nine-month challenge. He crossed the finish line holding the Taegeukgi flag amid the extreme conditions of the Arctic, achieving a triumphant finish.

Ahead of the most difficult Arctic race, Kian84 consistently trained. After passing the 30km mark on race day, he experienced persistent nausea but overcame the trauma by chewing ice. He passed the 36km point without vomiting for the first time, confirming an improved condition compared to before. Kian84 said, "The effort I put into training paid off. The once frustrating remaining distance gradually narrowed with a feeling of regret."

As he neared the finish, he suffered muscle cramps but overcame them and crossed the finish line holding the Taegeukgi flag. His time was 5 hours, 9 minutes, and 54 seconds, placing him in the upper-middle ranks. He showed tears upon seeing Kwon Hwa-woon, who helped with his training. After the race, when Kwon Hwa-woon placed 5th in the awards ceremony, Kian84 personally presented him with a first-place medal he made himself.

After the race, Kian84 parted ways with the crew members and moved to the final destination, Ilulissat, where he went on a glacier tour. In front of the massive glacier mountain range with a history of 250,000 years, he admired the scenery while drinking whiskey with glacier ice. At the accommodation, he ate ramen boiled with glacier water and watched the aurora, rewarding himself after the grueling journey.

On the last morning, he concluded his extreme journey with a run that blended with the Arctic scenery. In his running journal, he wrote, "Surpassing limits was not about muscles or stamina but about changing the shape of my thoughts. Running was not about fighting and winning against myself but about understanding myself." He added, "I will keep running somewhere."

In the studio, a plaque of appreciation was presented to Kian84, who perfectly fulfilled his role as crew leader, leading a journey of over 30,000 km since the founding of the "Extreme Crew." He expressed, "It feels like being rewarded for dedicating nine months to running."

"Extreme 84" is an ultra-extreme running observation variety show that captures Kian84's challenge of unimaginable marathons. Ratings rose with each episode, reaching a personal best nationwide rating of 4.6% on Nielsen Korea for the ninth episode. Kian84 led the "running boom" by completing full marathons both domestically and internationally, including the "Big 5 Marathon" in South Africa's safari region, the Médoc Marathon in France, and a 10km ice road race in the Arctic.

Despite enduring extreme races, he honestly recorded the happiness and charm running gave him in his running journal, delivering both entertainment and emotion to viewers.

Kian84 is currently a regular cast member on MBC's "I Live Alone" and will return as a guesthouse owner through the Netflix guesthouse variety show "Chaos Kianjang Season 2," scheduled for release in 2026. Last year, he won the Male Entertainer Award at the Blue Dragon Series Awards and the "Entertainer of the Year" award at the MBC Entertainment Awards for three consecutive years, showcasing his versatility.
