It has been revealed that Shin Ji-hyo, the daughter of broadcaster Shin Dong-yup, was simultaneously accepted to Seoul National University and Korea National University of Arts. Shin Ji-hyo is currently a senior at Sunhwa Arts High School, majoring in ballet. The ballet academy announced Shin Ji-hyo's acceptance news through social media (SNS), stating, "Our proud alumna Shin Ji-hyo (Sunhwa Arts High School, Grade 3) has brought us the joyful news of her acceptance to the Department of Physical Education at Seoul National University's College of Education." The academy also sent a message of encouragement, praising her for achieving her goals one by one.
Shin Ji-hyo was also accepted to the Dance Department at Korea National University of Arts last September. In October of last year, Shin Dong-yup personally shared the news of his daughter's university acceptance on his YouTube channel, 'Heartwarming Brother Shin Dong-yup,' showing his nervousness during the announcement. He said, "Today is the day of my daughter's university acceptance announcement," and received congratulations after confirming the news.
Shin Dong-yup married PD Sun Hye-yoon in 2006, and they had their daughter Shin Ji-hyo in 2007 and son Shin Kyu-wan in 2010. Shin Ji-hyo majored in ballet while attending Sunhwa Arts Middle School and Sunhwa Arts High School. In a past interview, Shin Dong-yup mentioned, "She started ballet as a hobby when she was young, but since she liked it, we continued to encourage her."
The Department of Physical Education at Seoul National University's College of Education selects some students majoring in dance and requires applicants to have grades and CSAT scores within the top 1-3%. In the regular admission process, the CSAT score has a higher weight than practical skills, and applicants must take basic physical fitness tests. This highlights one reason why Shin Ji-hyo's achievement is notable, as it requires not only dance skills but also agility and strength training.
Korea National University of Arts is the only national art university in Korea and has produced dancers active worldwide. Shin Ji-hyo, who graduated from Sunhwa Arts High School—an institution whose students with top practical scores mainly challenge the Korea National University of Arts—faced an admission process where practical skills account for nearly 100% of the evaluation. Although academic grades are also considered, it is difficult to be accepted without outstanding practical ability. After graduation, most students pursue careers as professional dancers, often joining prestigious dance companies domestically and internationally, such as the National Ballet Company and the National Contemporary Dance Company.
The news of Shin Ji-hyo's simultaneous acceptance has become a major topic among ballet majors as well. It is noteworthy because it requires top-level preparation in both practical skills and academics. The achievement of Shin Dong-yup's daughter serves as an inspiration to many.
