Jang Hye-jin appeared as the lead in the film "Number One" and shared her honest thoughts about her acting. She said, "I'm not an actor who acts very well, but you would be surprised at how much I practice." Jang Hye-jin emphasized that the characters she portrays are naturally expressed based on her life experiences.
On the 3rd, Jang Hye-jin gave an interview at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, explaining her acting style. She mentioned, "I don't act in a way that grabs your eyes like Yeom Hye-ran, Kim Sun-young, or Ra Mi-ran," and stated that she focuses on realistic and natural acting. She added that her experience as a mother of two children has greatly influenced her acting.
The film "Number One" will be released on the 11th, with Jang Hye-jin leading the story alongside Choi Woo-shik as the main characters. The movie tells the story of a mother, Eun-sil, who realizes the importance of family through her relationship with her son, Ha-min. Ha-min starts to distance himself from home-cooked meals after discovering that every time he eats the food his mother made, the numbers decrease, and when it reaches zero, his mother will die. Although the film begins with a whimsical imagination, it emphasizes the meaning of family through the ordinary truth of death.
Jang Hye-jin previously appeared as Choi Woo-shik's mother in "Parasite," and in this film, they play a family of just two. She said, "It was comfortable because there was no need for the phase of adjusting to a new actor when meeting Choi Woo-shik for the first time." In the movie, she plays a devoted mother who pours unwavering love into Ha-min despite losing her husband and eldest son. Jang Hye-jin portrays a character who appears cheerful and spirited on the outside but carries wounds, naturally leading the flow of the story.
In addition to "Parasite," Jang Hye-jin has won the audience's love through various roles in works such as director Yoon Ga-eun's "Our Body," "Crash Landing on You," and "Green Mothers' Club." Especially last year, she received high praise for comforting her daughter's pain in "The Owner of the World." She waved off compliments from those around her.
She said, "Other actors completely become different people and change clothes, but I just can't get out of myself," explaining that her tone, voice, and gestures are fully revealed. Instead, she emphasized that she carefully studies the script and never neglects practice.
Jang Hye-jin has nurtured her dream of becoming an actor since elementary school and was passionate about school plays during high school. However, after debuting in 1998, she left acting for nine years, recalling, "There were many people around me who acted better than I did, so I accumulated feelings of inferiority." After returning to the acting scene through "Secret Sunshine," she said, "I was so excited that I realized this is what it feels like for blood to flow."
Before gaining attention with "Parasite," Jang Hye-jin spent over ten years as an unknown actress. She said, "Even now, I think every project might be my last. That's why I always do my best."
Currently, Jang Hye-jin continues her prime by meeting the public in two to four projects every year. She said, "Whether it's a work people turn to when they're sad or one they watch when they're happy, I want to be remembered as an actor who always shares the same era, the same stories, and the same pains and joys with the public."
