BTS J-HOPE: From 'Gymnastics Boy' to 'World Star'

J-HOPE of BTS previously appeared on the YouTube channel 'Fairy Jaehyung' and shared his special affection and serious philosophy regarding dance, which began in elementary school.

It was in the third grade that J-HOPE became fascinated by dance. While filming a video for the school's morning exercise routine, he felt a powerful thrill of his "heart racing" as he moved and broke a sweat. Immediately after, he ran to his parents, confessed his love for dance, and decided on his career path.

Though his passion for dance was intense, the journey was not easy. His father, a literature teacher, was clearly opposed to his son pursuing dance as a profession. In response, during middle school, J-HOPE faced his father's demand to dance without any music, proving his skill and sincerity in person and finally earning his father's approval.

Cast in his second year of high school and moving to Seoul, J-HOPE devoted himself to practice with a positive attitude, thinking, "Even if it doesn't work out, it's a good experience". Within a team identity centered on hip-hop, he constantly pondered how to integrate his identity as a former street dancer with music. These reflections became the foundation for building a unique musical world that stays true to his roots, seen in works like 'Chicken Noodle Soup' and 'I wonder'.
