BTS world tour surpasses 5 million attendees... 2 trillion won in sales 'record-breaking success'

The expected attendance for BTS's world tour is projected to exceed 5 million people. Along with this, revenue from the world tour is expected to surpass 2 trillion won. Kim Yoo-hyuk, a researcher at IBK Investment & Securities, stated in a recently released report, "There is a high possibility that BTS's world tour attendance will exceed 5 million."

BTS's world tour schedule begins in April in Goyang, South Korea, with a total of 79 performances planned across 34 cities, including North America, Europe, South America, and Asia. This will set a record for the highest number of shows in a single tour by a K-pop artist.

Researcher Kim cited the stage setup as a reason for the high attendance. He explained, "This tour features a 360-degree in-the-round stage in the center, so there are no obstructed view seats," adding, "This will maximize ticket sales at stadiums." He also estimated the attendance for the North American and European tours at 2.77 million, which is similar to the currently disclosed ticket sales. Based on this, he projected the total attendance to be 5.22 million. Considering additional schedules to be announced next year for Japan and the Middle East, attendance could increase to the high 5 million range.

BTS's world tour attendance is likely to rank first in global tours by 2026. It is expected to surpass Coldplay's 3.5 million attendees in 2025 and Taylor Swift's 4.6 million in 2023. The highest-grossing tour to date is Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour," which attracted a total of 10.16 million attendees.

In addition to BTS's world tour, the economic ripple effects of their fifth full-length album, set to be released on the 20th of next month, and the "BTS Comeback Live: Arirang" performance held the following day in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, are also drawing attention. According to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, the economic ripple effect of one BTS domestic concert can reach up to 1.022 trillion won.

Researcher Kim predicted that revenue generated from BTS's world tour will exceed 2 trillion won, with operating profit surpassing 400 billion won. These figures include an average ticket price of 280,000 won, merchandise sales of 140,000 won per person, and sponsorship revenue. He pointed out that BTS's world tour performance is currently undervalued compared to market consensus and stated that HYBE's stock price is expected to continue rising. He maintained a buy rating on HYBE with a target price of 420,000 won.

In January of this year, the combined album sales of the four entertainment companies (HYBE, SM, JYP Ent., YG Entertainment) are estimated at 4 million copies, a 37.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Researcher Kim analyzed that despite January being an off-season for albums, HYBE and SM led growth with initial sales of 600,000 copies by Doyoung and Seungkwan (Seventeen), 2.08 million copies by Enhypen, and 910,000 copies by EXO.

In the music streaming sector, the combined monthly Spotify listeners for the four entertainment companies in January reached a record high of 271 million. Company growth rates were HYBE at 44.5%, JYP at 21.3%, YG Entertainment at 17.2%, and SM at 5.4%.

The combined concert attendance for the four entertainment companies in January is estimated at approximately 1.11 million. HYBE recorded 220,000 attendees, SM 260,000, JYP 280,000, and YG Entertainment 340,000. HYBE saw a 5.9% decline compared to the previous month due to a high base effect from a large-scale tour in the same month last year. In contrast, the other three companies continued double-digit growth in concert attendance.

This growth reflects the global popularity of K-pop and is expected to continue. K-pop artists' world tours and album releases bring significant economic effects both domestically and internationally, contributing to the global spread of Korean culture.
