"I'll Give You the Universe" premieres with a 1.9% viewership rating... Cohabitation and childcare contract finalized

tvN's new Wednesday-Thursday drama "I'll Give You the Universe" premiered with themes of cohabitation, parenting, and romance, but its first-week ratings were low. The first episode started with a 1.9% rating, which dropped to 1.3% in the second episode. This start is seen as failing to elicit a positive response from viewers. However, the introduction of a significant turning point—a cohabitation contract—in the second episode has raised expectations for future developments.

In episode 2, the protagonist Woo Hyun-jin (No Jung-eui) returns to an empty house with her 20-month-old nephew Woo-ju (Park Yoo-ho) after losing her sister's couple. Hyun-jin struggles with sudden solo parenting and preparing for a contract job interview at BS Food. On the day of the interview, when her friend Baek Se-yeon (Choi Gyu-ri) goes on a business trip and cannot help, Hyun-jin asks her brother-in-law Seon Tae-hyung (Bae In-hyuk) for assistance. However, Tae-hyung, inexperienced in childcare, has difficulty taking care of Woo-ju. Eventually, a commotion occurs when Tae-hyung shows up at the interview site with Woo-ju, leading to conflict between the two.

Later, due to plumbing issues in his apartment, Tae-hyung has nowhere to go and moves into Hyun-jin's house. Claiming he has Woo-ju's permission, Tae-hyung brings in his moving boxes, putting Hyun-jin in a situation where she cannot refuse. The two enter into a cohabitation and joint parenting contract with the condition of "just one month." This setup acts as a typical romance device, but the ratings remain low.

At the end of episode 2, Park Yoon-sung (Park Seo-ham), the team leader of BS Food's Planning Team 3, appears and smiles meaningfully after seeing Hyun-jin's resume. This is interpreted as a hint of a past connection.

Bae In-hyuk portrays Seon Tae-hyung as a realistic man, effectively expressing the character's complex emotions. Tae-hyung appears cold on the outside but shows emotional turmoil through his interactions with Hyun-jin and Woo-ju. He recalls past wounds, and scenes where his emotions fluctuate over small incidents add depth to his character. Notably, the scene where he rushes after receiving a text saying "I will give up Woo-ju" reveals his true feelings.

Choi Gyu-ri plays Baek Se-yeon, who plays an important role in the drama. Se-yeon appears whenever Hyun-jin faces difficulties, providing both comfort and practical help, maintaining the rhythm of the story. Her lines naturally advance the plot and help the audience easily empathize.

Although "I'll Give You the Universe" had poor ratings in its first week, it established the story's framework through the cohabitation contract. Bae In-hyuk's emotional line and Choi Gyu-ri's energy serve as supporting elements in the early stages. The key will be how the two protagonists understand each other and develop into a family through the contract. The key to increasing ratings lies in the development of their relationship.
