Choi Woo-shik X Jang Hye-jin 'Number One'... The Countdown of Life Contained in Mom's Home-Cooked Meals

Director Kim Tae-yong, a graduate of Sejong University's Department of Film Arts, will release his new film "Number One" nationwide on February 11. The movie is based on the novel "There Are 328 Times Left to Eat Mom's Home-Cooked Meals" by Japanese author Uwano Sora. The protagonist, Hamin, notices a decreasing number each time he eats his mother's food and learns that when the number reaches zero, his mother, Eunsil, will die.

The film attracted significant attention from the production stage due to the reunion of actor Choi Woo-shik, who plays Hamin, and actress Jang Hye-jin, who plays his mother, Eunsil. Choi Woo-shik delicately portrays the complex emotions of a son who alone knows his mother's remaining time and his desperate efforts to protect her. Jang Hye-jin is expected to deliver a profound emotional impact by showing unwavering maternal love despite the emotional distance between her and her son. Additionally, actress Gong Seung-yeon joins the cast as Ryeo-eun, enhancing the film's immersion.

The film poses the question, "How many times do you have left to eat your mother's home-cooked meals?" reminding viewers of the preciousness of ordinary daily life and family love. By combining the universal theme of "mom's home-cooked meals" with a fantasy setting of a "countdown to death," it delivers a unique blend of tension and emotion that sets it apart from typical family films.

Director Kim Tae-yong has been recognized for his delicate emotional portrayal and stylish direction through films such as "The Teacher" and "The Giant." He has received awards including the Best New Director at the 36th Blue Dragon Film Awards, the Best New Director at the 35th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards, and the Citizen Critics Award at the 19th Busan International Film Festival. While studying at Sejong University's Department of Film Arts, he also won the Best Film Award in the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival's Non-Feature category and the Grand Prize at the Korean University Film Festival.

The new film "Number One" is expected to evoke deep empathy from audiences through its precise capture of everyday emotions. It will remind viewers of the importance of family and leave a strong impression.

Through this work, Director Kim Tae-yong plans to convey a touching message about love and loss within families. "Number One" is poised to establish itself as a film that reflects on the meaning of family and the preciousness of life.

"Number One" is praised as a work that combines Director Kim Tae-yong's unique direction with outstanding performances by the actors, leaving a lasting impression on audiences. The film is expected to present a new paradigm for family movies and have a significant emotional impact on viewers.

The release of "Number One" will mark another meaningful addition to the Korean film industry. Audiences will be able to reflect once again on the importance of family and the meaning of love through this film.
