EDAM Entertainment, the agency of singer and actor IU, is taking legal action against individuals who have posted malicious content. According to an official press release issued on February 11, EDAM Entertainment, through the law firm Shinwon, which is handling legal representation, filed criminal complaints and civil lawsuits against a total of 96 individuals last year.

The main points of this legal action include a case where the court imposed a fine of 5 million KRW on a person who spread false rumors about the artist. Additionally, in a mental damages claim lawsuit against a person who raised false plagiarism allegations against IU on the overseas site X and reported them for copyright infringement, the court fully accepted the claim amounting to 30 million KRW. Furthermore, a person who repeatedly spread false rumors related to serious criminal involvement and the artist's nationality and identity on Naver was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a 2-year probation period and ordered to undergo probation.

EDAM Entertainment stated that a criminal complaint case against a cyber recka account that spread slander and false information about the artist on YouTube is currently under investigation by authorities. For users who spread false information and slander about the artist on the overseas site Threads, civil damages claims have been filed, and a request for disclosure of information has been submitted to a U.S. court to identify the users.

The agency emphasized, "We will respond strictly to illegal acts that infringe on the privacy of the artist and their family or threaten their personal safety." Recently, illegal acts such as threatening personal safety or demanding money near the artist's residence, family's residence, and company have occurred, and those involved have been reported to the police and are under investigation.

EDAM Entertainment stated, "We will take strong legal action, including criminal complaints, without any leniency against all acts that threaten the artist's safety." They also requested that people refrain from approaching or visiting the artist, their family, or associates.

Legal measures are still underway against additional malicious posts, especially on the overseas site Threads, targeting those who have posted defamatory, insulting, false information, malicious slander, and sexual harassment against IU. EDAM Entertainment is continuously monitoring and collecting evidence of malicious posts through reports from fans and via portals, communities, social media, music sites, and YouTube.

The agency stated, "We will continue to take strong legal action against all illegal acts that threaten the artist's honor, personality rights, and personal safety." They made it clear that perpetrators will be held strictly accountable without any settlements or leniency. EDAM Entertainment added that they will do their best to protect the safety and rights of the artist.
