Kwak Yoon-gi gives up business class seat to junior Olympic athlete... "The dignity of a senior"

Former short track national team member Kwak Yoon-gi (36) was revealed to have given up his business class seat to athletes participating in the Winter Olympics. In a recent video released on Kwak Yoon-gi's YouTube channel, "Hold Tight Yoon-gi," he shared behind-the-scenes stories related to the Olympics. In the video, Kwak greeted viewers, saying, "This is Incheon Airport. We're not going alone but all together. I arrived early as the expedition leader, and I'm guessing who will arrive first and who will be late."

The video featured not only Kwak Yoon-gi but also YouTuber Yojigyeong, Kim Ah-rang, announcer Bae Hye-ji, and YouTuber Youngalnam. Youngalnam asked, "Experts are predicting three medals this time. Is three medals an Olympics to look forward to or a disappointing one?" Kwak replied, "Honestly, even three medals is a generous estimate. Given the current atmosphere, I'd be grateful if we win even one. Usually, when talking about Olympic medals, we look at the first half statistics of the season. But our chances of winning gold are very low. Instead, we go to the Olympics hoping for the variable that the Olympics bring. I hope we do well."

Kwak Yoon-gi and Kim Ah-rang announced that they would attend the Olympics as commentators and would be using business class seats. Kwak said, "They gave me a good seat. Honestly, I'm not going as an athlete, so I don't need business class. It's good to give it to you guys, but if there's a chance, I want to swap with the athletes." This showed Kwak's consideration for his junior athletes.

After boarding the plane, Kwak met freestyle mogul ski national team member Lee Yoon-seung (20). With the flight attendant's permission, Kwak switched seats with Lee Yoon-seung, who was seated in economy class. He explained the reason for the seat change, saying, "I've never flown business class when going to compete, only when commentating or broadcasting. Even as I ride in business class, I don't feel convinced. I wonder why I'm experiencing something now that I never did as an athlete."

After the plane landed, Lee Yoon-seung handed Kwak a handwritten letter, and Kwak said, "I will definitely read it later," creating a warm atmosphere. This scene showed a heartfelt connection between senior and junior athletes.

After the video was released, netizens showered Kwak with praise. Comments included, "Yoon-gi, you're so cool," "The juniors will learn from your warm heart," and "Your character is amazing." This indicated that Kwak's consideration and warmth toward his juniors were positively received by many.

Kwak Yoon-gi's actions go beyond simply giving up a business class seat; they reflect fulfilling his role and responsibility as a senior in the sports world. Based on his experience as an athlete, he is positively influencing junior athletes, contributing to the promotion of sportsmanship.

This incident served as a reminder of the importance of senior-junior relationships and camaraderie in the sports community, beyond Kwak's personal choice. It is expected that Kwak will continue to exert such positive influence in the future.
