Trot singer Oh Yoo-jin shared memories of Lunar New Year from childhood and plans for this year's holiday. In a recent interview held in Seorin-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Oh Yoo-jin talked about various aspects of trot music. Now in the sixth year since debut, Oh Yoo-jin gained public attention in 2021 through KBS 2TV's "Trot National Sports Festival" with outstanding vocal skills and volume. In November of the same year, Oh Yoo-jin appeared on MBC's audition program "After School Excitement" to challenge idol singing, and in 2024, proved exceptional talent by finishing third in TV Chosun's trot competition program "Miss Trot 3."

Having recently suffered a leg injury during a schedule, Oh Yoo-jin said about plans for this Lunar New Year holiday, "I have no choice but to rest. My parents, who live in Jinju, plan to come up to Seoul, so I will spend time well with my family." Despite being young, Oh Yoo-jin shared a lovely story about Lunar New Year. He recalled, "I think I used to work half the time and rest half the time during Lunar New Year," adding, "My aunt and grandmother lived next door, so we all gathered to make holiday food together."

Oh Yoo-jin added, "I originally didn't eat donggeurangttaeng or sanjeok, but as I grew older, I picked them up beside the adults and they were so delicious. Since that Lunar New Year, I started eating donggeurangttaeng well, and I found it amazing myself." Reflecting on his childhood as a sixth-year debutant, Oh Yoo-jin said, "I feel embarrassed thinking, 'Why did I do that back then?' but I also feel that I have grown." He recalled, "I was originally just a kid who liked singing, but after participating in competitions and many people liked me, I remember thinking, 'Oh my, why do they like me?'"

He expressed feeling brighter after appearing on "Miss Trot 3." Oh Yoo-jin said, "People around me advise me to try various challenges. I do try, but the thing I do best and like the most is trot. Even if I move in a different direction later, I don't think I will ever let go of trot," showing special affection for trot music.

Oh Yoo-jin is currently attending Seoul Hallim Arts High School and balancing studies with singing activities. When asked about the difficulties of managing both school and activities, he replied, "It's actually fun." He said, "There are physically tough days, but I like going to school, playing with friends, talking, eating, and studying. I have a laid-back personality, so I get along well with my friends."

Oh Yoo-jin's New Year's goal is to release a new song. He stated, "I want to release a new song with a slightly different feeling from before. Not trot-like, but a sophisticated vibe. And I also want to show something visually new to many people." Lastly, Oh Yoo-jin sent greetings to fans and readers, saying, "Happy New Year, and I hope only good things fill your life. And I hope we can see each other for a long, long time."
