Tae Jin-ah's wife lives in a wheelchair due to severe dementia... "Has refused to go out since last year"

Singer Tae Jin-ah revealed the recent condition of his wife Ok-kyung, who is suffering from severe dementia. On the 16th episode of TV Chosun's program "Joseon's Lover," Ok-kyung appeared for the first time in two years, relying on a wheelchair. She looked noticeably thinner than before, and her hair had turned white. The cast expressed concern, saying, "Her health has deteriorated a lot in two years."

Tae Jin-ah explained his wife's health condition, saying, "Since April or May last year, she has disliked going out, so her leg muscles have weakened a lot. She finds it difficult to walk." A scene showing Tae Jin-ah assisting with the wheelchair and falling during the hospital visit was also aired. Tae Jin-ah, who is 72 years old, revealed the difficulties of caregiving while complaining of back pain.

The attending physician diagnosed Ok-kyung's condition as "severe dementia in its seventh year." He advised, "You can think of her as being in a baby-like state," and added, "Since the dementia has progressed significantly, rather than expecting responses, please accept all the words and actions of the patient with an open heart." Two years ago, Ok-kyung greeted the production team and smiled, but now she is unable to recognize her surroundings.

After the broadcast, viewers were moved by Tae Jin-ah's devoted care. Comments of support continued, saying, "I respect how he stays by her side until the end," "I hope both of them stay healthy," and "I can't even imagine how hard caregiving must be."

Tae Jin-ah also showed a tearful moment as he announced his journey to help his wife regain her memories. On the show, he said, "Miracles do exist, honey," expressing his hope for her memory recovery. Tae Jin-ah even visited New York with his wife to help her recall past memories. As part of "reminiscence therapy," he shows her familiar places and makes efforts to stimulate her memory.

In September last year, Tae Jin-ah appeared on "Gourmet Heo Young-man's Baekban Journey" and revealed that his wife has been battling dementia. He mentioned an incident where she fell while going to the bathroom and fractured her arm, expressing his sorrow by saying, "I felt so sorry." Tae Jin-ah also shared that when they sleep, he ties a string to her hand so that when she gets up, he will wake up.

Regarding his wife's condition, Tae Jin-ah said, "Thanks to everyone's support, the dementia, which was progressing, stopped about six months ago. Her mental strength is gradually reviving," indicating positive changes. He has two sons with his wife and released a hit song titled "Ok-kyung," featuring her as the main character.

Ok-kyung's health decline was a great shock to Tae Jin-ah. On the show, he emotionally cried while recalling precious memories with his wife. He visited his mother-in-law's grave and prayed, saying, "I am keeping the promise as my mother-in-law said and living well. Please cure Ok-kyung's dementia," showing deep affection.

Through the broadcast, Tae Jin-ah once again emphasized his love and devotion to his wife. Along with his efforts to revive her memory, he maintains a positive mindset despite the hardships of caregiving. Tae Jin-ah's appearance has touched many people and reminded them once again of the reality faced by dementia patients and their families.
