Choi Jun-hee explains wedding photo controversy, saying "Designated a Japanese photographer... lacked understanding"

Choi Jun-hee clarified the controversy surrounding her wedding photo shoot. On the 18th, Choi Jun-hee posted on her Instagram, "A Korean photographer who often shoots in Japan designated the location, so how could I have known in such a vast Tokyo?" She added, "The last region I visited was Osaka when I was in kindergarten, and that photo was never officially released in the first place." Choi Jun-hee expressed her frustration, saying that although she had conducted more than nine sponsored wedding shoots, it was unfair to interpret any particular meaning from just one photo.

Earlier, on the 16th, Choi Jun-hee announced her marriage and revealed her wedding photos on her personal social media. The photos featured her with her non-celebrity boyfriend, who is 11 years older. However, some photos sparked controversy online. In particular, a photo taken at a place presumed to be a temple was pointed out as a space for the "Mizukokuyo" (水子供養) ritual, which was criticized as inappropriate. Mizukokuyo is a ceremony praying for the souls of children who passed away due to miscarriage, abortion, or stillbirth.

Choi Jun-hee explained that the incident occurred due to a lack of understanding of Japanese culture. She said, "I am a huge fan of the U.S., so I had no knowledge of Japanese culture, and I apologize." Along with this, Choi Jun-hee made her position clearer by sharing SNS conversation messages with the photographer who took the wedding photos.

Various reactions appeared online. Some netizens suggested, "It is highly likely she didn't know," and "The photographer might have mainly chosen the background." On the other hand, some criticized, saying, "It doesn't seem to fit with a photo shoot announcing a new start." There were also cautious voices stating, "It is too early to make judgments without accurate information about Japanese culture."

Along with the marriage announcement, Choi Jun-hee said, "Family has always been a difficult word for me," and added, "Now, as a wife, I want to live a stronger and warmer life with my own new family that I will build going forward." The wedding ceremony is scheduled to take place in May at a hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Choi Jun-hee is the daughter of the late Choi Jin-sil and the late baseball player Cho Sung-min, and she is currently active as an influencer. Through this wedding photo shoot, she announced a new beginning and expressed a positive will regarding her marriage despite the controversy.
