On the February 20th broadcast of TV CHOSUN's "Geumtaneun Geumyoil," the Lunar New Year special project "Korea-Japan Deathmatch" will take place. This episode is attracting attention as a showdown between top trot stars from Korea and Japan, and in the previous 8th episode, it recorded a peak viewership rating of 5.7%, ranking first among Friday variety shows during the holiday season.
In this broadcast, the results of the intense first-round battle between Team Korea Jin's Kim Yong Bin and Team Japan's Utagokoro Rie will be revealed. Currently, Team Japan holds the golden star, and all eyes are on whether Kim Yong Bin can turn the tide.
Kim Yong Bin will face off in a "one-song battle" against Shima Yuuki, the inaugural Jin of "Mr. Trot Japan." This rematch, held six months after the "Korea-Japan Mr. Trot Clash," is considered the biggest showdown of the Lunar New Year special. The song they will compete with is the Japanese remake version of Park Yong-ha's "Like the First Day," well known as the OST of the drama "All In."
Park Yong-ha won awards at the Japan Golden Disc Awards for four consecutive years, gaining great popularity in Japan as well. Notably, this song was also remade by Japanese singer Nakamori Akina under the title "Red Flower." Given that this masterpiece is beloved in both Korea and Japan, the determination of both contestants is exceptional.
Kim Yong Bin chose to sing in Japanese, delivering the song's narrative with deep emotion and delicate expression. Team Japan leader Takahashi Yoko praised, "Kim Yong Bin sings Japanese so well that the lyrics were conveyed clearly. His sweet face and voice were truly impressive." Yuuki said, "I returned to Japan with a sad heart after losing the last match. This time, I want to win and return with joy," expressing her resolve.
Watching the stage, Jung Seo-joo commented, "When Kim Yong Bin sang, you could feel deep emotion, while Yuuki's singing conveyed beautiful emotion," highlighting the contrasting charms of the two performers.
In this battle, the team leaders of both sides, not the karaoke master, will score directly. One hundred global audience members on site will vote for only one of the two singers to participate in the evaluation. Since the audience's votes will directly affect the outcome, this will be a match where predicting the result until the very end will be difficult.
