BTS Mexico Additional Concert President Lee Jae-myung "Conveyed Opinion to Agency"

Claudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico, revealed President Lee Jae-myung's positive response to the request for additional performances by BTS. On the 20th (local time), President Sheinbaum posted a two-minute video on her official social media showing her reading President Lee's reply letter.

In the letter, President Lee stated, "I am pleased to confirm that the relationship between Korea and Mexico is growing deeper based on mutual respect and trust between the two heads of state," and added, "The affection that the Mexican people have for Korean culture and K-pop clearly demonstrates how deep the cultural ties between our two countries are."

Regarding the additional BTS performances requested by President Sheinbaum, President Lee said, "The intention of the Mexican head of state has been appropriately conveyed to BTS's agency," and mentioned, "Since popular culture activities are led by the private sector, government involvement may be limited, but we expect positive responses in this field in the future."

President Lee also requested maintaining close communication through diplomatic channels between the two countries and expressed anticipation for a reunion with President Sheinbaum.

This request comes against the backdrop of confusion during the BTS concert ticket reservation process in Mexico. The BTS concerts scheduled for May 7, 9, and 10 at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City sold out within 37 minutes of ticket sales opening. However, during this process, unclear fee structures and illegal activities by scalper organizations were revealed, leading to protests from fans.

President Sheinbaum had previously stated that she sent a letter last month to President Lee requesting additional BTS performances. Through the release of this reply, she conveyed to fans, "Now, let us wait together for good news."

The two heads of state have maintained a friendly relationship since their meeting at the G7 summit held in Canada last June. They plan to further strengthen relations between the two countries through cultural exchange.
