The special Lunar New Year project "Korea-Japan Deathmatch" on TV CHOSUN's "Friday Gold Rush," which aired on the 20th, concluded after two weeks of intense competition. Team Korea defended their pride in the Korea-Japan match by winning 11 to 8.
In the first round, Jin (眞) Kim Yong Bin faced off against Japanese singer Utagokoro Rie. Kim Yong Bin won 99 to 97, earning the first victory point for Team Korea. This win was a crucial moment that broke Team Japan's momentum. Next, the unbeatable duo Son Bin Ah and Chun Gil took the stage, selecting Lee Sun-hee's "Ah! The Old Days" against Masato, who placed third in "Mr. Trot Japan." The two overwhelmed the studio with their outstanding high notes and vocal power, scoring a perfect 100 points. Chun Gil avenged the narrow one-point loss to Masato from the previous Korea-Japan match with this performance.
In the second round, Team Korea faced a crisis. The girl group sis's unit defeated the Choo Hyeokjin·Seon (善) Bae Ah-hyun·Mi (美) Oh Yoo-jin unit by 2 points, signaling a counterattack. Then, the "Mr. Trot Japan" TOP 5 unit Masato and Ushijima Ryuta added two golden stars against Choi Jae Myeong and Nam Seung-min, widening the gap. Team Japan surged ahead with five golden stars, while Team Korea remained at two, facing a critical situation.
The third round featured a "one-song battle." Kim Yong Bin and Shima Yuuki competed by singing Park Yong-ha's "Like the First Day" in a Japanese remake version, each conveying different emotions. The result was 296 to 282 points, with Kim Yong Bin winning and adding three golden stars to Team Korea. In the following match between Chun Gil and Ryuta, Ryuta won, allowing Team Japan to regain the lead.
In the battle between Jin (眞) Jung Seo-joo and Rie, Jung Seo-joo scored 298 points, earning three golden stars for Team Korea. This tied the score at 8 to 8, resetting the competition. In the final match, Son Bin Ah faced Kazamino Sato Tsunehiko, selecting Kim Kyung Ho's "People Who Make Me Sad." Son Bin Ah won 303 to 290, awarding three golden stars to Team Korea. Ultimately, Team Korea won 11 to 8, claiming victory in the Lunar New Year special "Korea-Japan Deathmatch."
The broadcast also featured a stage of a different kind beyond competition. Team leaders Kim Yeon-ja and Takahashi Yoko sang Kosaka Akiko's "You" together, conveying the meaning of Korea-Japan harmony. Additionally, Kim Yeon-ja's special stage "For You" was revealed, marking the finale of the Lunar New Year special.
"Korea-Japan Deathmatch" ended with Team Korea's victory after two weeks of competition. Despite the rivalry, respect and support for each other continued, creating a stage that went beyond simple win or loss.
