WJSN's Yeonjung successfully completed her performance, further enhancing her acting skills through the musical "Sugar." The musical was held at the KEPCO Art Center Grand Theater in Seoul starting from December last year, and Yeonjung concluded her approximately three-month journey with the performance on January 21.
Through her agency Starship Entertainment, Yeonjung expressed, "It was an honor to participate in the Korean premiere of a Broadway production. Since it was my first time challenging this genre, I had many concerns, but I feel rewarded that the audience enjoyed it as much as I prepared by studying the character 'Sugar.' It was a time that gave me the courage to take on challenges more confidently."
The musical "Sugar" is a show musical set during the American Prohibition era, telling the story of two musicians who disguise themselves to join an all-female band. Yeonjung played the role of 'Sugar,' a vocalist dreaming of ideal love, delicately expressing her lovable charm and inner loneliness, earning praise from the audience. In particular, Yeonjung showcased a strong presence on stage by perfectly performing explosive vocals and dazzling numbers based on swing jazz.
Yeonjung was praised for bringing out the unique charm of the show musical through detailed emotional control in the yacht scene and lively interaction with the ensemble. Since debuting in musicals in 2022 with "Lizzy," Yeonjung has built her acting skills by challenging various genres such as "Crash Landing on You," "Aloha, My Moms," and "The Great Comet." Through "Sugar," she expanded her range to include comedy, reaffirming her potential as an all-rounder artist.
Having successfully completed the musical stage, Yeonjung will now return to her team to meet fans. WJSN, to which Yeonjung belongs, plans to celebrate their 10th anniversary on January 25 by releasing a special single "Bloom hour" for fans and commemorating the occasion.
