The group I.O.I is making a comeback to the music industry to celebrate their 10th debut anniversary. On the 23rd, Swing Entertainment announced, "I.O.I (Lim Nayoung, Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Jung Chaeyeon, Kim Sohye, Yoo Yeonjeong, Choi Yoojung, Kim Doyeon, Jeon Somi) has confirmed their comeback in May," adding, "They are currently preparing a new album." Swing Entertainment will take full charge of I.O.I's management and oversee their comeback activities through this 10th-anniversary project.
This activity marks a reunion after about nine years since 2017, carrying significant meaning in commemorating I.O.I's 10th debut anniversary. The members have consistently expressed their willingness to reunite through various interviews and official appearances, and after long discussions, they have come together again. However, Kang Mina and Zhou Jieqiong will not participate in this activity due to scheduled commitments, and I.O.I will return as a nine-member group.
Each member has been actively building their careers as solo artists, actors, and entertainers. They are coming together as one team again after 10 years since their formation, drawing global fans' attention to the new music and upgraded performances they will present as I.O.I. Interest is also growing in what kind of synergy the individual experiences and personalities accumulated by each member will create in their team activities.
I.O.I is a project group formed through a national vote on Mnet's "Produce 101" in 2016. They debuted in the music industry in May of the same year and released numerous hit songs starting with their debut track "Dream Girls," followed by "Whatta Man," "Very Very Very," and "Sonagi." They quickly established themselves as a representative girl group in the music industry by sweeping first place on music shows and topping major music charts within a short period.
I.O.I proved their unique presence by winning rookie awards at major award ceremonies such as the Mnet Asian Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, and Seoul Music Awards. In addition to their music activities, they solidified their position as the "national girl group" by actively participating in various entertainment programs. I.O.I officially concluded their activities with a concert in January 2017.
This comeback will include the release of a new album and plans to hold an Asia tour starting with a concert in Seoul. A grand-scale performance is anticipated to quench the thirst of fans who have waited nine years, expected to mark the spectacular peak of their 10th-anniversary activities. Detailed schedules and album information regarding I.O.I's 10th-anniversary comeback will be released sequentially in the future.
