Actor Song Ji-woo shared her thoughts on the conclusion of KBS 2TV's weekend miniseries "Beloved Thief." In the final episodes aired on February 21 and 22, Song Ji-woo left a deep impression by portraying Geum Nok's tragic end and repentance. The drama "Beloved Thief" tells the romance of a woman who accidentally becomes the greatest thief in the land and the prince who pursues her, as their souls switch places, leading them to save each other and protect the people.
Song Ji-woo delivered a tense performance as Geum Nok, the king's woman. In the finale, Geum Nok became a criminal and faced Kang Yoon-bok (played by Moon Tae-yu) in the interrogation room. Calmly revealing her feelings, Geum Nok said, "Since it's the last time, can't we at least say goodbye? I was a woman who briefly loved you." Then, watching Kang Yoon-bok turn away coldly, she smiled sadly as he said, "Accept your punishment."
The scene of Geum Nok heading to exile was also depicted. Passersby threw stones and cursed at her, and when Kang Yoon-bok took the stones on her behalf, Geum Nok quietly apologized, saying, "I will accept my punishment fully." Geum Nok's acceptance of the consequences without running away from the tragedy caused by her choices left a profound impact on viewers. Song Ji-woo convincingly completed the character's final moments by expressing Geum Nok's regret and resignation through restrained eyes and delicate facial expressions.
Through her agency Billions, Song Ji-woo shared, "It still feels unfamiliar that the time I lived as Geum Nok has ended." She added, "Geum Nok was neither purely good nor evil; she was someone who tried to change her fate in her own way. I repeatedly pondered how to express her wavering and regrets during that process. I was able to deeply look into one character's inner world and gained great learning and growth as an actor. I sincerely thank the viewers who watched until the end."
The most memorable moment for her was when Geum Nok, for the first time, did not run away but admitted her mistakes and said she would accept her punishment. Song Ji-woo said, "That moment felt like someone accepting their choices not out of ambition or calculation, but as a person. Although she might seem hateful, I hope people remember her as someone who held on to life until the very end."
Since her debut in the 2019 drama "The King's Affection," Song Ji-woo has proven her stable acting skills through various works such as "Extraordinary You," "The Forbidden Marriage," "Into Your Time," "Dr. Slump," "I Boldly Dream of Cinderella," "Love's Andante," and "Gangnam B-Side." Especially in the Netflix series "The Glory," she played the young Choi Hye-jung, and in "Squid Game Season 2," she portrayed contestant No. 196, Kang Mina, showcasing her unique presence. Song Ji-woo is establishing herself as a rising star to watch in the future.
