Brazilian First Lady joins hands with Baek Jong-won for 'Globalization of Korean Cuisine'... also receives BTS merchandise

Brazilian First Lady Janja Lula da Silva had dinner with Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea, during her visit to South Korea. The dinner, held on the 21st at Sindang with Chef David Lee, a former New York Michelin restaurant chef, was arranged at Mrs. Janja's request. This dinner was confirmed through a video released on social media.

At the dinner, CEO Baek said, "BTS Jin wanted to join but couldn't, which was regrettable. I will give a gift on Jin's behalf," and handed over merchandise personally signed by him. He also expressed, "I am very happy and pleased to meet Mrs. Janja today," and said he was impressed by her activities for the underprivileged.

Mrs. Janja and CEO Baek exchanged opinions on the globalization potential of Korean cuisine menus based on K-sauce and ways to spread Korean food locally in Brazil. At the dinner, Mrs. Janja emphasized "cultural diplomacy led by the private sector" and proposed an official invitation to Brazil this October to CEO Baek, who accepted immediately. Mrs. Janja posted on social media with hashtags of Baek Jong-won and BTS Jin, writing, "Thank you very much. We will be waiting for you in Brazil."

One of the gifts CEO Baek delivered was 'Aigin,' for which BTS Jin serves as an ambassador.

The Brazilian presidential couple held an official dinner with President Lee Jae-myung and his wife at the Blue House on the 23rd. About 300 personnel were involved in the official welcoming ceremony, and at the state dinner, Chef Yoo Yong-wook, who appeared on the Netflix variety show "Black and White Chef 2," presented barbecue dishes. The dinner menu was prepared to symbolize the harmony of the two countries' cultures.

For the toast, cocktails made with 'Cachaça,' Brazil's national liquor, were served, and Chef Yoo personally served barbecue inspired by Brazilian beef skewers, performing on the spot. The appetizer featured a dish using Brazilian mango and seasonal East Coast snow crab, and dessert included a traditional Korean drink, yuzu hwachae, with Brazilian acai berries made into jelly.

The dinner attracted attention with the attendance of major conglomerate heads, along with CEO Baek Jong-won and Kim Hong-guk, chairman of Harim Group. Mrs. Janja has continuously shown interest in K-food, and this visit is expected to expand K-food's entry into Brazil.

It is known that Mrs. Janja unusually arrived in South Korea a day earlier than President Lula and had a private dinner with CEO Baek. It is reported that she invited CEO Baek to Brazil at this meeting.
