Min Hee-jin abandons 25.6 billion won put option and "supports the five-member system of NewJeans"

Min Hee-jin conveyed an offer to HYBE to forgo a 25.6 billion KRW put option. This proposal advocates for a five-member structure for the girl group NewJeans. On the 25th, Min Hee-jin held a press conference regarding the legal dispute with HYBE at the Kyowon Challenge Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul. On that day, he announced the victory in the lawsuit concerning the exercise of a put option worth approximately 25.5 billion KRW against HYBE. The press conference was originally scheduled to start at 1:45 PM, but Min Hee-jin arrived six minutes late at 1:51 PM.

At the press conference, Min Hee-jin stated, "The court revealed that the provocative frames of 'management takeover' and 'tampering' are illusions," acknowledging that his legal judgment was what a manager should rightfully do. He mentioned that the outcome of this lawsuit serves as consolation for the wounds of the past two years. He continued, "Instead of holding on to 25.6 billion KRW, I propose to immediately stop all ongoing civil and criminal lawsuits and end all disputes." This proposal includes the termination of all lawsuits and accusations directed at NewJeans members, external partner companies, former Adore employees, and the fandom.

Min Hee-jin supports the five-member structure of NewJeans and emphasized, "I can no longer watch the reality where five members who should happily be on stage have to stand either on stage or in court." He requested the creation of an environment where NewJeans members can freely pursue their dreams.

He also addressed Bang Si-hyuk, chairman of HYBE, saying, "Let's meet now not in court but in a place of creation." He argued that in an era where corporate responsibility has become stricter following the amendment of the Commercial Act in July 2025, resolving risks in the entertainment industry and choosing harmony is the wisest management decision for shareholders and fans.

On the 12th, the Seoul Central District Court dismissed HYBE's claim in the lawsuit seeking confirmation of termination of the shareholder agreement filed against Min Hee-jin and ruled that Min Hee-jin's exercise of the put option was legitimate. The court ordered HYBE to pay Min Hee-jin an amount worth approximately 25.5 billion KRW. HYBE expressed regret that its claims were not sufficiently accepted and announced plans to proceed with further legal actions.

Following the court's ruling, Min Hee-jin applied to seize HYBE's bank accounts but was denied. The court granted HYBE's request for a stay of enforcement. The first trial court admitted messenger conversations between Min Hee-jin and BTS member V as evidence. V reportedly sent Min Hee-jin a message saying, "Yeah, exactly. I also looked and thought, 'Ah, this is similar.'" Later, V posted on his personal SNS, "Since he was my acquaintance, this was part of a private everyday conversation shared with empathy. I have no intention of taking sides." He expressed surprise that the conversation was submitted as evidence without his consent.

Min Hee-jin's press conference is regarded as a significant milestone in the conflict between NewJeans and HYBE. He is making efforts to create an environment where NewJeans members can freely carry out their activities, and attention is focused on what outcomes will follow.
