Producer Kim Tae-ho presents content that gives year-end and New Year's gifts through MBC's new variety show, "Manitto Club." Producer Kim revealed that he restructured the secret friend game into a variety show, inspired by BLACKPINK member Jennie's remark about "gifts" last August. "Manitto Club" has been airing since the 1st, featuring cast members exchanging gifts with each other and delivering support and happiness to ordinary people called "Secret Manitto."
Producer Kim emphasized the program's message, describing it as "a show that is more comfortable to watch and relatable than dopamine-inducing content." This program takes a different approach from the recent trends of survival or genre shows. The cast exchanges gifts with each other and collectively brings happiness to ordinary people.
"Manitto Club" consists of 12 episodes in total and is presented in an omnibus format, dividing the cast into three teams that rotate. Season 1 features Jennie, broadcaster Noh Hong-chul, Lee Soo-ji, Dex, and Choo Sung-hoon. Season 2 includes actors Go Yoon-jung, Jung Hae-in, Kim Do-hoon, broadcaster Park Myung-soo, and Hong Jin-kyung. Season 3 stars actors Cha Tae-hyun, Park Bo-young, Lee Sun-bin, Kang Hoon, and broadcaster Hwang Kwang-hee. Producer Kim focused on the process of gift-giving itself and expressed joy that the cast members get to know each other better while preparing gifts.
Careful consideration was given to selecting the program's main characters, the "Secret Manitto." In Season 1, the Secret Manitto was an elementary school student chosen for their pure joy in receiving gifts. Season 2's Secret Manitto was a firefighter, set as a "senior Manitto" active in various parts of society. Producer Kim stated that the cast's fame was concealed, focusing on delivering heartfelt gifts.
The nationwide viewership rating of "Manitto Club" remains in the 1% range. Producer Kim said, "Since this is different from the currently trending content, I didn't expect unrealistic ratings, but it is a bit disappointing." However, he noted that TV ratings today do not reach the levels of past programs and emphasized that how content influences our lives is more important.
Producer Kim said, "The company has genre shows and romance shows, but I thought it was time for me to create positive content for diversity." As the head of Theo, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary at the end of the year, he expressed his determination to continue considering leading content rather than following trends. Producer Kim emphasized, "The greatest dopamine for a variety show producer is opening the start of a 'new era'," expressing his willingness to take on various challenges.
