KBS 2TV's "New Release Pyeonstorang" introduced the new Pyeon Chef Sunye in the broadcast on the 27th. Sunye is the leader of Wonder Girls, an idol who led the golden age of K-POP, and is currently a working mom raising three daughters. On the show, Sunye revealed her cooking daily life, family, and love for her late grandmother.
Sunye appeared on the show with a figure comparable to an active idol. Vitamin MC Hyojung admired and praised Sunye's appearance, saying, "You look like you're in your active days." Sunye expressed pride in cooking by saying, "I have three kids, and I prepare three meals a day with my own hands."
Although Sunye showed some awkwardness at the beginning of the observational variety show, she soon adapted and declared, "I will start cooking," sharing cooking tips as a 14-year housewife. In particular, Sunye introduced a set of three homemade seasonings that consider both taste and health.
Sunye made headlines when she announced her marriage during her time as a member of Wonder Girls. She was 24 years old at the time, lived in Canada after marriage, and then returned to Korea. Sunye recalled, "I personally packed cookbooks and went to Canada," and revealed that she completed home meal recipes after various trials and errors. She showcased dishes such as sweet braised pork ribs, non-chewy dried shredded squid, and almond anchovy snacks.
During the broadcast, upon hearing that her aunt and uncle were visiting, Sunye recalled childhood memories and recreated her grandmother's table. Remembering dishes her grandmother used to make like radish rice, braised radish, radish kimchi stew, and tofu stew, she completed the cooking. Sunye added other ideas during cooking to showcase her culinary skills.
Her aunt and uncle came prepared with gifts, and the three shared memories over her grandmother's table. Sunye expressed longing for her grandmother, who recognized and supported her talent as a singer. She also shared the pain of losing her grandfather and father while promoting in the U.S. in 2009 and how she overcame it through marriage and childbirth.
Sunye said, "My children are a great gift to me," and added, "After getting married, I felt my grandmother's heart even more." She expressed her longing for her grandmother, saying, "How painful it must have been to lose a child first." The production team showed a video of Sunye's grandmother, and Sunye shed tears of emotion.
Sunye has returned from the nation's girl group fairy to the home meal fairy. As a mother raising three daughters who has come to understand her late grandmother's heart, Sunye plans to share sincere stories and various foods on "Pyeonstorang" going forward. "New Release Pyeonstorang" airs every Friday at 8:30 PM.
