Director Jang Hang-jun jokes, "If 'The Man Living with the King' surpasses 10 million viewers, I will change my name."

Director Jang Hang-jun of the film "The Man Who Lives with the King" is drawing attention with his promise related to reaching ten million viewers. Director Jang appeared on SBS Radio PowerFM's "Bae Sung-jae's Ten" in January and spoke about his ten million viewers pledge. He stated, "There are many films releasing during the Lunar New Year holiday. Rather than one film surpassing ten million viewers, it is important that all films break even and help revive the theaters."

When Bae Sung-jae asked, "If it reaches ten million, will you appear again?" he replied, "No, reaching ten million is not that easy." Regarding the ten million viewers pledge, he joked, "There's no way it will reach ten million, but if it does, I will first change my phone number, change my name, and get plastic surgery. So no one can recognize me." He added, "I'm thinking about naturalizing somewhere else. I hope no one finds me." He also said with a laugh, "I'm considering buying a yacht. Then I'll have a party on board. You have to eat lobster on a yacht, right? I'll have a chef on board too."

According to the Korea Film Council's integrated computer network as of the 26th, the film "The Man Who Lives with the King" attracted 309,547 viewers on the 25th alone, maintaining its position as the box office leader. The cumulative audience reached 6,528,519. The film surpassed the break-even point by attracting three million viewers on its 14th day since release. This indicates it is rapidly heading toward becoming a "ten million viewer" film.

Regarding surpassing five million viewers and the director's award, Director Jang explained, "The director's award doesn't hold much significance. Directors want to surpass the break-even point because they don't want those who trust and invest in them to suffer losses, and they want to prove to the actors and staff who trusted and chose them that it was the right decision."

As Director Jang Hang-jun's ten million viewers pledge is being revisited, his close friend, singer Yoon Jong-shin, has expressed concern about his rashness. With the box office trend looking serious, there are reactions suggesting that the situation may actually require him to fulfill his pledge.

"The Man Who Lives with the King" is set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 and tells the story of village chief Eom Heung-do (played by Yoo Hae-jin), who voluntarily exiles himself for the village's revival, and the young dethroned former king Danjong (played by Park Ji-hoon). The film stars Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Hae-jin, along with Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, Kim Min, Park Ji-hwan, and Lee Joon-hyuk.

Various responses related to the film's success continue, and audiences are expressing anticipation about whether "The Man Who Lives with the King" will become the first ten million viewer film of the year. Whether Director Jang's pledge will actually be fulfilled depends on future audience numbers. If the current box office trend continues, achieving ten million viewers seems highly likely.

The film is receiving positive reactions from audiences, which is largely attributed to Director Jang's directing skills and the actors' performances. Viewers are immersed in the story and characters and have praised the engaging development.

"The Man Who Lives with the King" leaves a deep impression on audiences with Director Jang Hang-jun's unique vision. Audiences empathize with the messages and emotions conveyed by the film and are returning to theaters. The film's success holds significance beyond mere numbers and is expected to be an important milestone for the revival of the Korean film industry.

Director Jang Hang-jun's ten million viewers pledge is no longer just a joke but a realistic goal. If the film's success continues, there is a possibility that the director's pledge will be fulfilled. Audiences have high expectations that this film will become an important work in the history of Korean cinema.

"The Man Who Lives with the King" is currently showing in theaters and continues to receive steady attention from audiences. How Director Jang Hang-jun's ten million viewers pledge will unfold depends on the upcoming box office results.
