A woman in her 30s with Brazilian nationality was arrested and indicted for repeatedly stalking Jungkook, a member of BTS, by visiting his residence. On February 27, the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office indicted Ms. A for violating the Stalking Punishment Act and trespassing. It was confirmed that from December 7 of last year to January 4 of this year, Ms. A visited Jungkook's residence a total of 23 times, ringing the doorbell hundreds of times and waiting near the residence, engaging in stalking behavior.
Despite receiving an emergency protective order from the police in late December last year, Ms. A is also charged with violating the order by visiting Jungkook's residence again in early January this year. According to the Stalking Punishment Act, an emergency protective order is an immediate restraining measure against ongoing stalking behavior, and an urgent emergency protective order includes measures such as prohibiting approach and contact within 100 meters. A provisional measure can be taken to prohibit approach or similar actions when there is concern about the recurrence of stalking crimes, either at the prosecutor's request or by the court's authority.
Ms. A is also accused of trespassing on December 13 last year by entering through the side door of Jungkook's residence when a food delivery worker opened it. The Yongsan Police Station arrested Ms. A in flagrante delicto, and at the time, she stated, "I just wanted to make my presence known and had no aggressive intent." However, her offenses continued afterward. On December 28, Jungkook's assistant discovered Ms. A and reported her to the police, who then decided on an urgent emergency protective order. The Seoul Western District Court later approved this measure.
Nevertheless, Ms. A visited Jungkook's residence again in January this year, and when her whereabouts became unknown, the police applied for an arrest warrant for her on January 28. The warrant was issued upon the prosecution's request, and Ms. A was arrested on February 10. Subsequently, a detention warrant was issued, and on February 13, Ms. A was taken into custody for investigation.
The prosecution received the case on February 19 and conducted additional questioning of Ms. A on the 24th. During the investigation, Ms. A reportedly stated, "I generally admit the facts, but my actions were out of love for Jungkook, and I had no intention to cause harm." However, the prosecution concluded that Ms. A's actions constituted stalking and recognized the trespassing charge, leading to her arrest and indictment.
Through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the police confirmed that from December 7 to 27 last year, Ms. A attempted to trespass seven times by pressing the door lock keypad and pushing and pulling the side door of Jungkook's residence. However, the prosecution dismissed this part due to insufficient evidence, as the CCTV review did not confirm the related details.
This case occurred amid growing social concerns about stalking crimes against celebrities. The Stalking Punishment Act provides legal measures to ensure the safety of victims and prevent crimes, and the police and prosecution continue to pursue strong responses to stalking offenses. Ms. A's arrest and indictment are part of these legal measures and are expected to raise social awareness about stalking crimes in the future.
