Park Ji-hoon and Yoo Hae-jin's 'A Man Living with the King' surpasses 9 million viewers... Could it be setting a new record for historical drama success?

The movie "The Man Who Lives with the King" has surpassed 9 million viewers, moving toward the milestone of 10 million viewers. On March 2nd, the film recorded a cumulative audience of 9 million on its 27th day since release. This pace competes with "The King and the Clown," the first historical drama to reach 10 million viewers, and is faster than "Masquerade." It surpassed the 9 million mark just one day after exceeding 8 million viewers.

The film distributor Showbox shared on social media that afternoon, "Thank you to everyone who joined us as subjects and friends," along with a commemorative photo featuring the lead actors and the audience. According to the integrated ticketing system for movie theaters, "The Man Who Lives with the King" attracted about 817,000 viewers on March 1st alone. This is the highest daily attendance since its release, exceeding the 661,000 viewers recorded during the Lunar New Year holiday.

"The Man Who Lives with the King" tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily exiled himself to Cheongnyeongpo village in 1457 to revive the community and a young dethroned king. Centered on the friendship between historical figures Danjong and Eom Heung-do, the film has received great acclaim from audiences thanks to the passionate performances of Park Ji-hoon and Yoo Hae-jin.

The film set a new daily attendance record by attracting 810,000 viewers on March 1st, the day of the Samiljeol holiday. As of March 1st, the cumulative audience was 8,484,433, and it surpassed 8 million viewers in just 26 days since its release. This pace is faster than that of the 10 million historical drama "The King and the Clown" and last year's box office leader "Zootopia 2."

Even as it enters its fourth week, "The Man Who Lives with the King" is showing an unusual increase in audience numbers. Typically, attendance declines over time after a film's release, but this film's audience has risen during its third and fourth weeks. The film industry analyzes this as a "reverse trend driven by word of mouth in the later stages of its run."

As audience satisfaction accumulates, the film's momentum is gaining further strength. Thanks to enthusiastic word of mouth and a wave of repeat viewings, "The Man Who Lives with the King" is expected to surpass 9 million viewers, and there is speculation that it could reach the 10 million mark if this trend continues.

The film also holds an overwhelming first place in advance ticket sales. As of 9:10 a.m. on March 2nd, the number of reserved tickets reached 288,870, showing a 15-fold gap compared to the second-place film, "Hoppers."

Directed by Jang Hang-jun, "The Man Who Lives with the King" stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Jeon Mi-do, and Yoo Ji-tae, showcasing a performance that spans generations. Based on a historical background, the film captivates audiences with its moving story and outstanding acting.

The movie surpassed 1 million viewers on its 5th day, 2 million on the 12th, 3 million on the 14th, 4 million on the 15th, 5 million on the 18th, 6 million on the 20th, 7 million on the 24th, and 8 million on the 26th day. On March 2nd, the last day of the Samiljeol holiday, it exceeded 9 million viewers, entering the countdown to surpassing 10 million.

This film leaves a deep impression on audiences with its story based on historical facts and strong characters. Viewers can feel the friendship and sacrifice of historical figures through this work, which greatly contributes to the film's success.

The success of "The Man Who Lives with the King" is having a positive impact on the Korean film industry, and attention is focused on its future box office results.
